So much for all of the talk about Democrats being weak and rolling over for Kavanaugh. And I agree that being there to aggressively question Kavanaugh was/is a much better strategy than simply walking out and ceding the floor entirely to the GOP. Their aggressiveness may not change the outcome in the end but at least they can make the GOP (and Kavanaugh) look worse for the wear by the end of it.
A walkout would have achieved nothing. Most of all, it would have robbed us of this epic takedown by Sheldon Whitehouse which is good to have on the record and for future perspective on all of Kavanaughās decisions (and the rest of the conservative court for that matter).
That is the thing, you can make turn someone inside out when you stop trying to do what everyone else would do or is expected to do.
The thing Iāve discovered about getting older is that I donāt give a crap what most people think about me. When I was younger, that kind of stuff mattered to me. Now, I know that itās nonsense. Getting older is so damn liberating!
Infinite ālikes.ā
Lots I can say on that subject but I would be here for a day trying to get it down. The biggest challenge for me is removing the platitudes we have been saturated with and finding what is actually real.
But as an aside. I have tried to stop using the phrase āgetting olderā. Old does not come in a box, delivered by UPS from Amazon. We age and are interactive in the process. It is a craft that takes time and practice. Aging is unique for each of us with equally unique results. I would rather someone tell me I have aged than gotten older. It recognizes I have put in the time and effort.
I understand the feeling, but as Iāve said elsewhere, he may not be my idea of a progressive Democrat but when it comes down to it, he has to appeal to the people he represents to stay in office. If the D after his name ends up giving us a Senate majority at some point in the next 2 elections heās welcome to say anything he likes.
Totally agree, make the points that need to be made, and walk out just like that.
The Dems need to have some solid reasons for walking out after participating in the hearing. Otherwise, they will look petulant - which, for some reason, is not OK for Dems, but acceptable Republicans.
