Discussion: Doug Jones: 'I Think We Need To Move On' From Trump Misconduct Allegations

The hell with him !
Now we have to see what is in his background …
Dope!

actually it is not a remarkably stupid thing to say…Doug Jones will not be re-elected in Alabama because he is republican lite…they will just pick a real republican. His only chance of being re-elected is to prove that he is actually fighting about the issues that people care about. He was pushed over the top by Trump hating democrats and the apathy of republicans that were too embarrassed to come out and even vote for Roy Moore. Hanging Roy Moore around the republicans neck for the mid terms would accomplish more than Doug Jones trying to appease Alabama voters who will not re-elect him when a non pedophile is on the ballot opposite him.

Because … of course! Dismaying but not surprising. Alabama Alabama Alabama – it’s going to take some time. Shorter Doug Jones: This is just one more thing we need to forget …

African-Americans in Alabama are well aware that Doug Jones will sometimes disappoint them, but, with that full knowledge, they turned out in great numbers to vote for him. Good for them.

Fuck no. No more making excuses for men who don’t have the balls to stand up and do the right thing, Democrat or Republican.

Moore’s pathetic sexual behavior is not the driving issue here. Moore is a racist, a bigot, and intolerant of everything that isn’t like him. If seated as a senator, and held up to some ethics investigation for sexual impropriety, that would have NO EFFECT on his racism, bigotry, and intolerance.

Nope, he’s better off as far away from a leadership position as we can keep him.

Mary Landrieu, Mark Pryor…Snookums

They are real issues, but nowhere as important as health care, tax law, and immigration. Jones is properly worried about us getting distracted by them.

Yes it is
And yes it is.

I supplied multiple articles just a few posts up about why the African American community turned out in numbers greater than they did for Obama, in a special election no less. If you think African American women didn’t turn out like this because they’re raging mad at Trump, Moore, racist assholes and sexist assholes, you’re just not listening to them.

If you think saying EXACTLY what the Trump administration is saying about this issue isn’t giving cover to Trump or spitting at the African American community in Alabama, you’re not paying attention to them and just assuming they’ll keep showing up for Dems like this. Roy Moore won’t be on the ballot in 2018. You want to swing some Southern districts? It’s time to find our balls and stop trying to win back Southern, working class whites who are never pulling the lever for a democrat.

So here you have the Jones good Democrats wished for. Actually, it’s worse: although something like 57% of his votes came from Blacks and were attained by the substantial efforts of a few Black grass roots organizers, on election night Jones thanked them not one word but rather thanked his media contractor for the advertisements directed at whites. And Jones’ background is civil rights…Yeah, right.

Bullshit.
And it stinks on ice.

Doug Jones is a moderate Democrat—and has been his entire adult life.

The people of Alabama are almost certain to have a different idea of what those issues are than you have, Sparky.
Like any member of Congress worth his salt, Jones will tailor his message to his constituents—not to the far-lefties who won’s support him no matter what he does or says.

Maybe in some states, but not in Alabama. And reflecting the feelings and issues of his constituents is hardly “appeasement.”
You purity types are determined to keep the Democrats in the minority by demanding that they all hew to your beliefs.

False, and scurrilous.

Neither are Alabamians, and neither has been on a ballot lately.
Ridiculous comparison.

You mean doing what Jones did?

Because that’s how to win as a Democrat in the Deep South.

No, there is no honeymoon. Jones is not even married to the senate yet.
He has been Dem Senator for negative zero minutes, and he sucking up to Trump and the Republican line of “nothing to see here” when it comes to Repub sexual assaults.

Yet he has the time to excoriate Frankin. Tell him to resign. For lessor alledged offenses.
"Senate nominee Doug Jones says Sen. Al Franken should resign amid allegations of sexual misconduct involving women.
Jones said Wednesday that sexual harassment isn’t a partisan issue, and people in Congress shouldn’t be treated differently than others.
He said Franken should quit for the good of the country and his own constituents."

IOKIYR? Thanks Alabama.

If all of the districts that resemble Alabama’s 6th district across the country make the same swing away from Trump and the Republicans that this district did for Jones, the House of Representatives would literally have less than 70 Republicans in it after the 2018 election. The only Republicans left would be guys like Louie Gohmert in districts gerrymandered so red that a dead dog could be elected if Republican. The wave is coming - the only way it can be stopped is either by war (a distinct possibility) or Democrats tearing each other apart so terribly that we actually start to look worse than Trump (a distinct possibility). In this case, the perfect is the outright enemy of the better. I am no fan of conservative Dems, but for God’s sake let’s win a few fucking elections before we start the purge!

Jeeeezus

So what? We need to stand up to this shit, not back down. And chicken shits don’t belong in the senate.

Okay then let’s be completely honest. The only thing that matters are the courts. We smile politely and say it’s just AL or NY or KS or whatever location if the elected official downplays something we as individuals consider damned important. Do I think Jones is going to consistently vote/support every issue that a senator from a traditional blue state champions? Of course not. But don’t expect me to clap politely because he’s from AL.

do republicans currently represent their entire states or just the people that elected them? mmmmmmm

That is just dead wrong about what Jones did. Jones got a lower percentage of the white vote than any ‘experts’ thought he needed to win. It was all about the record African American turnout and depressed white turnout.
