Voluntary vaccination for highly contagious diseases makes as much sense as voluntary decisions regarding whether or not to drive while under the influence.

I’m fine with the idea of the $5000 fine per unvaccinated kid per year, but I can see how the wealthy would not mind paying it. I agree that unvaccinated children should not be allowed in public or private school, and I think they also should not be allowed on a plane (though having to papers would inconvenience everyone). Lastly, they should get the boot from their pediatricians’ practices. I understand some pediatricians are considering this, since having these unvaccinated kids in their waiting rooms and offices puts their other patients, including infants and kids who are immunologically compromised at risk.

You are free to put your own children at risk but you have no right to endanger other people’s children. So put your money where your mouth is. Home-school your kids, don’t take them to doctors’ offices where they can infect infants and kids with chronic illnesses, and don’t travel.

A better, simpler answer would just to force the children to be vaccinated. Parents should have zero say in the matter.

As for Dr. Wolfson’s child being “pure”, like all of us he/she is 90% bacteria. If Dr. Wolfson is a real doctor, he ought to know that. Yet somehow he believes injecting a minuscule amount of bacterial/viral matter (less than 0.001% of the resident fauna) will “contaminate” the child.

Anyone who is not properly vaccinated should be put under house arrest. Sociopathic and dangerous to all.
We have a precedent for this: Mary Mallon, aka Typhoid Mary. I would settle for unvaccinated kids (for the major diseases) having periodic (probably weekly or monthly, as determined by epidemiologists) blood tests, without which they would be quarantined. Failure to observe these precautions would get child welfare authorities involved and invoke strict liability for any disease cases in the zip codes where the child had been.
Or, y’know, people could just get their kids vaccinated.
I also think that part of the reason for the anti-vax movement in the US at least is the horrible nature of our healthcare system, where pretty much anything bad that happens to a kid is a financial disaster for the parents, often even if they’re insured. (E.g. even if hospitalization and medications and office visits are paid for, days lost from work taking care of the kid are a dead loss for many, as are all the ancillary costs of having a sick kid that aren’t directly medical.) People get irrational when they’re constantly scared.

There hasn’t been enough indeed any discussion of the link between chickenpox and shingles. No one who knows anything about shingles would not want to try to prevent it. It’s painful and disfiguring.

Here and there they are being treated like pariahs, and they’re crying mightily about the injustice of it.
I’d bet most of these anti-vax parents had their shots, didn’t suffer through these diseases. But they are willing to let their kids suffer. Let 'em all get shingles. Let 'em have pock marks on their faces. I’d say chances are good they’ll get their kids vaccinated.
I have my grandma’s scrapbook of my dad, a kid in the 40’s. Those diseases swept through the classrooms like crazy. It’s simply idiocy to deliberately encourage resurgence of these preventable diseases.
We haven’t addressed those who have “legitimate” religious objections to medical care. I say “legitimate” because they’re whack jobs, OTOH they really believe God forbids medical intervention of the vaccine sort. I don’t have a whole lot of sympathy for these folks, but more for them than the anti-vaxxers relying on rumor and unfounded fear.
I’ve had it. It’s awful. The pain is unrelenting. For months.
