UHC is still feeding at the govât trough. They are a major player in that 20% of coverage Medicare doesnât cover. Some insurance companies take home enormous profit. It boggles me

Hopefully we will get there as a country. I spent part of yesterday listening to the woes of a 62 yr old female friend. Sheâs having a tough time getting coverage because of bureaucratic bungling in the ACA and one female employee there who is on an extreme power trip. As I listened I could see how this friend is really forced into the GOPer style of thinking about the ACA. Her battles are excessive and completely unnecessary and caused by ineptitude of ACA employees. But still I give large credit to Mr Obama for fighting the good fight to get the ACA into law and no credit to the GOP for fighting against health care. Iâm glad Iâve got Medicare tho. Itâs way simpler.

United healthcare has always been a crappy, over-priced insurer. This is good news for the consumer.

The lesson that Republicans should learn here is that their healthcare plan, which became the ACA, wasnât the most efficient option.
We all knew that already. Donât hold your breath waiting for them to announce that theyâve learned that lesson.

Yes, and in Georgia and Arkansas, two states where they are pulling out, they had previously tried â and failed â to push through big double-digit rate increases.

United Health appears to be too lazy to do the work associated with finding ways to be profitable in this industry. Itâs always easier to bitch and whine than to develop and implement real ideas.
And I donât consider lobbying Congress to be an alternative to doing the real work thatâs in front of you.

But Iâve been appealing a hospital stay with UC for almost a year. They are impossible to deal with.
United is pulling out of Louisiana, too; 13% of Louisiana residents will have to find new health insurance. The state insurance commissioner says it does not appear that their withdrawal will cause major problems. Seems to me we received a mailing from the company offering health insurance a short time ago. I guess they didnât know they were pulling out.

One of the inherent problems in being a national insurance company is that every state does things completely different. You must file rates and other documentation (evidence of coverage, etc) in every state in which you offer plans for each of those plans and you must wait for approval. This is the time of year when all of those things are due, particularly for ACA certification. Itâs entirely possible that UHC fell down on the job. Talking from a national place to all of those regions/states and getting processes in place for all of those regions/states is like turning a battleship. They simply arenât nimble enough. Hopefully all of this will force them to modernize in a more rapid fashion.
EDIT: The ACA is far more effective than most give it credit. The pressure on big insurers to adapt to changing times is crushing. They simply arenât structured that way. Part of this is because of our state by state insurance regulatory system. They could have gamed this out, but they figured they didnât have to.

Blue Cross Illinois was losing money, so they canceled the plan I had at the end of 2015, leaving me and thousands of other policyholders scrambling to find an equivalent plan. BCBS still offers policies, but doesnât cover the major Chicago hospitals. The alternatives were Land of Lincoln, which is a cobbled-together cooperative of small insurers and is hobbling along, and Harken, which is a UH spinoff with HMO-style clinics for primary medical care. They cover the hospitals BCBS bailed on. I hope it works. There still wasnât much to choose from during the enrollment period. I expect more problems this year.
All the more reason for single payer.

Iâm not sure why you think this is a contradiction. Iâm sure most of them really are Christians. Calling yourself Christian (or any other label) has little bearing on oneâs behavior.
They get all righteous about what the Old Testament says about men sleeping with men in some side note, but one of the Ten Fucking Commandments is âThou Shalt Not Killâ yet they are big supporters of the death penalty, gleefully so. Turn the other cheek? Their glock says otherwise.
United Health Care was rated the worst Medicare health plan in So. California by Consumer Reports last year.
