Discussion for article #243926
Anybody want to bet they’ll all be riding to the same airport in separate Chevy Suburbans by 4 p.m.?
Well done, a compromise. We liberals didn’t get all we wanted but then neither did the GOP. It’s a start in governing. And do note that it was only possible by significant support from across the aisle as the GOP leadership fell far short of the old Hastert Rule. The Democrats get it - America first, over party. Thanks, Nancy.
Actually, it did meet the so-called Hastert Rule (though no children were molested). It got 150 Republican votes, a majority of the majority. I will be optimistic and say that it’s because Ryan is a more effective leader than Boehner (the bar is lying on the ground there) rather than simply that as the new guy he’s getting a honeymoon.
Probably more that they wanted to go home without people bitching and moaning about them still not getting anything done.
Gets what “done”?! If the abomination gets out of the Senate, which I doubt, the President will only veto it!
…repealing labeling standards on beef and pork coming outside of the U.S.
What? Does this mean they can import pork from China and neglect to mention it to the consumer?
The Definition of Insanity: voting for Republicans over and over again and expecting different results.
a crap sandwich with secret sauce
But it didn’t meet the Boehner Corollary to the Hastert Rule: Republicans must be able to pass a bill by themselves (218 votes) or the bill does not come to the floor for a vote by the full House. It was that stipulation that gave the TP rump its power to stymie Congress. Hopefully, Ryan will ignore it going forward.
