Discussion: Donald Trump Jr. Defends Reddit Meme Creator After CNN Report

Sexton is receiving death threats but lets all concern ourselves with a man who posted disgusting comments on Redditt

I take your point, but now the President’s son has created an imaginary 15 year-old martyr and CNN can only disprove that creation by going back on their word to not publish John Doe’s name.

Have to disagree on that. The guy may be an ass, but he didn’t commit any crimes. Really doesn’t seem fair to ‘out’ him, especially given his steps to correct things and save himself being embarrassed with family, friends and colleagues.

That’s why I think that CNN’s choice, although poorly worded, is a reasonable one, particularly if there’s nothing noteworthy about the guy (i.e. not a politician or other public figure). If they guy chose to continue making news, then it could become a matter of potential newsworthiness, as by having his memes become a major story, he would then be losing his general expectation of privacy by choosing to become a celebrity of sorts.

well Junior has struck me to be a needy boy…

Agreed, though it would be interesting if a CNN editor had accounted for all of this, but they probably didn’t.

Way to focus on the businesses, Don Jr.

Someone responded to Trump’s wrestling match with CNN on YouTube, and it’s well worth 3 minutes of your time if you haven’t yet seen it:

Note: A small amount of strong language

No, I don’t think they thought it all the way through either. And now that they’re in this dilemma, where they get it both coming and going, I worry that the lesson they’ll take away is to stay away from this story completely. And I think we all agree that it’s important for America to know why Steve Scavino and others have spent the last year or more cultivating an army of racist propaganda trolls.

It’s easy to second-guess, so I don’t want to be too critical of CNN. It just seems like, if you’re gonna do it, do it.

I guess there is a genetic basis for stupidity after all.

It could be very informative if TPM interviewed “HanAssholeSolo” to find out how long he was trolling, why he did it and what he got out of it. And hadn’t he ever considered the harm that racist memes that he was creating and passing on might be doing, even as he himself did not agree with them?

You almost have to admire the sheer chutzpah required to turn a middle-aged poster of antisemitic filth who’s already recanted and apologized into a 15-year-old dewy martyr for the cause.

I miss the days when presidential offspring were fairly normal people. Tricia and Julie Nixon. The Ford kids. Amy Carter and her brothers. Patti Reagan and Ron Jr. Chelsea Clinton. Sasha and Malia.

Sasha and Malia.

I saw an post about a certain subset of people on the internet making comments under an article regarding Malia Obama’s birthday. Mind you this is a kid that I cannot recall saying even two words during Pres. Obama’s entire presidency - and certainly nothing political. But the comments…OMG…so vile and nasty. And yes, racist (referencing ape in heels, eating bananas, hood rat, etc). It nearly broke my heart that they would attack her like that, in that manner

Anonymity on the internet breeds this shit. And I’m sure a lot of these same commentators would insist “that’s not who they are”.

Guess this would be a good time for Melania to roll out her cyberbullying campaign

If only @CNN spent as much time tracking down info on IRS targeting, Fast & Furious, Iran deal etc as they did a meme writer!

Always good to hear from Butthead. Hey, Butthead, you should have added fake moon landings, bigfoot, and spoon bending to you list.

He didn’t even mention Benghazi. Slacker.

“I love people of all races, creeds and origins. One of my best friends is a homosexual and one of my best friends is Jewish and one of my best friends is Muslim.”

Wow! Hat trick!

Junior still hasn’t met a neo-nazi he doesn’t like. Its like he’s compelled to link to them or make some comment in defense of these people. Regardless of whether the guy now says he’s not that way…he is. Anyone that posts that shit has some deep hateful shit going on…so no sympathy from me that he’s now saying he’s not really like that. The bigger question is when and why did Jr. and that other clod of a son learn to love fascism so much? I think we know the answer to that. That’s something that takes some learnin’ and some support along the way.

Just to add, Mike Flynn’s son had the same love affair with this neo-fascist authoritarianism on the right. Flynn and tRump had more in common than we want to admit. They both raised their sons to be little Hitler-loving assholes.

What’s really creepy is the way Donald Trump Jr. can’t seem to control his morbid obsession with Nazism and the Holocaust. Remember his radio comment about “warming up the gas chamber” during the campaign? He’s a twisted little bastard.

Lesson learned.

Trump, his family, and his army of money-grubbing lawyers are watching everything everyone does.

I guess the conservative era of “small government” is over.
