The thing is…he didn’t really compliment Trump. When he was interviewed about that, he clarified that his words got lost in translation. He didn’t say “brilliant”, he said “bright”, and not as in his is smart, but rather as in he is a colorful personality.
But everybody in the media keeps playing along with Trump’s version.
Matt Lauer demonstrated terrible ineptitude by not questioning him when he and the NBC News didn’t milk Donald Trump’s attack on John McCain before an audience of military service men & women; his cowardly, bogus deferments; and his denial/blatant lie regarding his support for the Iraq war,
Dunno how the audience where able to contain itself when he praised Vladimir Putin, a foreign enemy, and discredit America as a military power.
You know it really is an abomination that Trump is a candidate for the most powerful office on the planet, let alone being taken seriously as a thoughtful leader. I’ve heard more intelligent blather from drunks in bars than have ever come out this man’s mouth.
I remember feeling this way in 2000 with W., and when he slithered into office, my reaction was, “This man’s going to screw things up.”
If Trump is elected, I think my reaction will be considerably more gloomy.
Once again, there is nothing this man won’t lie about, and there is ZERO follow-up from the media, which leads to these bizarre pronouncements that Trump had “a good night” and Secretary Clinton was “on the defensive” – I have lost track of the number of BLATANT lies that Trump passes off without a bit of push-back from the media, who sit entirely mute while this nation goes down the fucking drain.
I have never been more disgusted with MSNBC than tonight. Trump insisted that America should have “taken” Iraq’s oil when leaving the country after years of war that destroyed the infrastructure of a sovereign nation. This idea is a WAR CRIME by all definitions, and yet not a peep out of this pathetic group of so-called journalists.
Notice that Lauer interviewed on a curve tonight. Hillary got tough questions with aggressive followups. Trump got open ended questions that might have been perfect for somebody in a Miss Universe pageant. When is the Press going to start doing its job. Trump is running for President of the United States. He will get access to the nuclear codes. This election is no longer amusing.
I have noted several times that Trump is a demagogue. I wish to qualify that. Although Trump is ruthlessly skilled in getting the maximum out of his real estate deals (that is, when banks are willing to loan money to him), he is, in so many fascinating ways, a demagogue AND a moron.
Trump has issues that make him unqualified to be president. His short attention span and inability to actually learn things about being president are already a significant concern. His impulsive decision to fly off to Mexico without proper preparation was particularly bizarre.
There’s a clue about Trump that the press largely ignores. He was more capable of making money when his father was still alive. He’s not worth more than $10 billion as he claims, but he’s still rich. Just sitting on the real estate he had 30 years ago would make him far richer than most people. Nevertheless, he refuses to release his tax returns because they will tell a story that does not match his enormous ego.
It would be interesting to know how much Putin understands Trump.
