This ostensibly bizarre relationship between the NRA and Russia stinks to high heaven. And not to go all Joe McCarthy, but the stench is that of a foreign ideological ally in a transnational authoritarian ideological movement. A relation not unlike, oh, say, the overt relationship between the CP-USSR and the communist and other far left parties of most western democracies (CP-USA included) and the USSR’s covert funding of those parties (which always seemed to have more money than their membership dues could explain) and the KGB’s use of those parties as espionage support structures and recruiting tools.
Except it’s an alliance between gun-fondling anti-democratic, pro-oligarchic authoritarian thugs rather than communists.
As Josh pointed out, the NRA did a shitton of field work and other support for Trump. And, were I Mueller, I’d be very curious about where all the money came from and how many of those dues-paying NRA members are actually Russian fake identities.
