I hope Paul Wood has it right. If so, you are absolutely right. This is clear evidence of coordination with foreign nationals to influence an election.
Might we awake one morning to learn that these conspirators have been taken into custody? Perhaps an unindicted co-conspirator? Would that be enough to prevent him from pardoning any of them?
I hope this nightmare ends soon. It will take years to fix the damage, if ever.
Well, if Nunes reveals the classified material to Trump, he will have already committed a felony before Trump then declassifies that material. Of course, Nunes would probably get away with it anyway with no consequences. Hmm… maybe it’s time to set up a few guillotines on the National Mall.
Why is anybody paying any attention whatsoever to Nunes and his arrogant demands? He long ago recused himself from the Russia investigation as a result of his own misbehavior! You don’t get to un-recuse yourself later just because you want to; it is supposed to be binding. I wish Rosenstein or Mueller would call his bluff, and say, “No, since you have recused yourself, you have no authority to demand anything from us.” They’d send someone else, of course, but I’d love to see that asshole cut down to size!
No. This has nothing to do with oversight—it is virtually unprecedented to 1) ask for evidence material to an ongoing criminal investigation, and 2) actually surrender such evidence. Oversight is after action review. This is a blatant attempt to run interference for an ongoing criminal, counterintelligence and national security investigation. It has nothing to do with oversight.
I’ve wanted to believe the best about Rosenstein—but what he’s doing is completely without precedent. The DOJ simply does not hand over evidence material to an ongoing criminal investigation—let alone one with counterintelligence and national security implications.
Good catch—this has been highlighted to TPM many times previously. What can you expect from AP, but we expect better from TPM.
I fear Rosenstein is pulling a Comey here—he alone knows best. There’s a reason DOJ does not hand shit like this over—let alone in the middle of an investigation! See my comment below as well.
Yes—GOP-proof everything!
So is having a traitor as president and another traitor as Attorney General. I think you’re right that Rosenstein is acting like Comey in ignoring previous guidelines, but I’m not sure the rest of the situation is the same. I think that he thinks he’s not merely in protect-the-FBI mode but protect-the-republic mode: He’s trying to navigate a course that trades giving some information to anti-US forces for not getting fired and having trump/sessions/putin et al blow up the whole deal. Because you can bet that any puppet successor to Rosenstein would not only fire Mueller but also find a reason to share all of Mueller’s files with trump. And SDNY’s.
Rosenstein may well be wrong, and may even not be acting in good faith, but I think that he thinks he’s no longer in US government-of-laws territory. More like decaying Ottoman empire or czarist russia or one of the other corrupt, faction-ridden kingdoms.
Be fair. That’s only true of he parts of the documents that tend to exonerate Trump or indict Clinton. All else will remain fully classified and therefore ‘unfortunately unable’ to be released. For national security reasons, of course.
eta the security part.
Yes which is why every conservative in law enforcement must be fired.
Jail him first.
Part 1 - 2 - 3
I wouldn’t trust Nunes with a recipe for fish tacos, much less classified info.
Can someone please post 100 banners asking, 'Where’s Nunes" across CA District 22, so we can vote him out?
He’s apparently afraid of town halls.
Yes, he was relaxed.
Nunes vs Mueller, it’s cringe-worthy. It appears the response to Nunes is to bury him in paper. And he will need a coach to help him read it.
Meanwhile over at Fox, they are obsessed with Peter Strzok. “to the gallows with him!” What did he really do except dislike Trump?
Yes, Timbo but it’s pretty much all unprecedented at this point.
