I see the DOJ finally tired of prosecuting people that laugh in confirmation hearings and have moved on to harassing teenage girls.
The ACLU made them look like idiots coz the U has better lawyers.
I’m forever puzzled by the legal wrangling that occurs in relation to the performance of abortions. Abortion is a legal choice and procedure. Yet even in some instances of an adult woman seeking one some State or the Feds manage to throw up the occasional roadblock, citing some malarkey for justification. Inevitably the abortion is performed.
It’s a legal medical procedure. Like circumcision, or a vasectomy, or a hysterectomy. An adult says they want one of the aforementioned and no one is going to intervene to stop it. But a woman wants a legal abortion and sometimes ends up having to get a lawyer and fight it out in court. Fight to procure a LEGAL procedure. WTF?
The 17-year-old had an abortion on Oct. 25 after the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled in her favor. The Department of Justice says its attorneys were told that the procedure would occur Oct. 26.
Well they had to - they knew the misogynistic conservative assholes who were using this person to prosecute their war on women would find some way to hold it up if they didn’t.
And now they’re pouting over the fact that they failed to control the life of this young, female immigrant (she’s a double bad 'un in their eyes).
Triple bad, she’s not Caucasian.
It’s like the DOJ is saying: “ The ACLU was mean to us. Can you believe it, they wanted to win for their client and they actually wanted us to lose. The nerve.”
That last time I checked abortion was still legal in this country. The government was trying to prolong these proceedings until it became a moot point. Maybe the DOJ needs to be investigated for its slimy underhanded tactics and denying this young girl her rights.
Because Jesus! Or they just want to control women’s bodies. Usually both.
The Department of Justice will demand nothing less than that the young woman be re-impregnanted.
At minimum she should be forced to make someone a sandwich.
So let me get this right – with their entire case resting on making a deadline that any reasonable person would know could be moved up for any number of possible reasons, they claim that they took an extra day to a file motion that they could have filed 30 minutes after the appellate decision was issued and somehow it’s the other side’s fault?
Yep. One of my friends is legal counsel to the Texas group. I was surprised when I saw that the young woman had gotten the abortion without further ado. I asked how it was done, and the reply was that they were quicker, got a TRO, and got the girl out before the State and Feds made a move.
The ACLU made Trump’s minions look like complete fools and morons. QED.
Perhaps the government should have requested a stay before leaving the courtroom after the decision was made in the court of appeals. I hate these people so much. Why are they allowed to become involved?
They outsmarted themselves. The DOJ thought by filing late they could delay the operation. This is a sanctionable misuse of the judicial system.
Once the courts decided that the teen was legally entitled to the abortion, it as no longer any business of the Federal government when she chose to have it.
And the really sad thing is that if they had either forced her to have the baby or delayed long enough that she had no choice but to have it, they would not have lifted a finger to help care for the child they forced her to carry to term.
Although, one bit of irony about the whole process is that the baby might well have ended up an “anchor baby,” a U.S. citizen because of being born in the U.S.
