Discussion: Documents: Girl, 15, Who Shot Brother, 16, Suffered Abuse For Years

Where the hell was the juvenile justice system? Oh we are talking about Florida, mostly a third world country stuck to the bottom of the United States.

The kids should have been removed from their parents “care” years ago.

Just imagine how many more cases like this is laying just below the surface. Makes me sick to think this is so prevalent…

Florida has one of the poorest excuses for a child protection system in the world. But that’s ok, our taxes are low and it keeps government off our backs. They found him raping her and there was no follow up, no safety plan for her, no child neglect charges at that time???

Get her out of jail and into a treatment home with her sisters.

are you kidding me ? no kid ‘needs’ to be locked in a room for 20 days .

I hope all three of these kids find the healing they will undoubtedly need.

…and I hope the parents get the Chair.

Yes except they should have all the help they need to try to make good lives for themselves.

In Florida and many other states you can shoot someone in the back to protect your car or other property, but a child who has been raped and tortured (20 days of solitude is torture, for sure) and denied medical care for years by her own family might be tried for murder as an adult for freeing herself and protecting her little sister from the same fate.

I bet the brother was seriously abused, too. It’s not uncommon for abused kids to become abusers themselves.

What shocks me is the Prosecutor is thinking about charging her (and her 11 year old sister) as adults. Sort of makes you wonder about the Prosecutor doesn’t it.

He doesn’t want to appear soft on crime, now does he?

When it comes to this prosecutor there is nothing to wonder about. He’s a monstrous ass.

If the abuse/neglect facts are correct, to charge either girl would be a travesty of justice.

Another fine and twisted example of how some parents might think 20 days of room restriction is not so bad . . . .

Premeditated murder is still murder.

Leaving the place of abuse is always preferable than leaving> sneaking back in> murdering some one.

America sucks.

I need answers to a lot more questions before I decide whose head should roll. This is an effed-up situation, without a doubt. But the exact origin of the dysfunction should be understood before the punishment gets dished out.

I think you take typing too literal.

Just saying if the kid has issues that are that significant, there may be more than pure neglect. Could be a lack of resources to properly manage.
