The Bernie vs. Hillary battle is over. It is time to move forward. I really don’t understand enough about the details to favor Perez or Ellison, but what I STRONGLY support is that every rational Democrat get behind whoever wins! These internal divisions only strengthen Trump and his ilk. In fact, I am quite convinced that the online debate is fed by our “good friend” Vladimir and his troll army. Unity folks!
I’m with you both. I think they could both succeed (and they could both fail). My very very slight preference is with Perez because I think he has the needed organizational skills at a level that I’ve not seen in Ellison, but could live with either choice.
What I can’t live with are those (and they seem to be clustered disproportionately on one side of the election) who are “my guy or the highway”, who won’t accept if their preferred candidate doesn’t win. That doesn’t help anyone.
Edit: And it appears we have a few of those latter folk here. . . . .
If the DNC elects another sand bag, I will very gladly have nothing whatsoever to do with the “democratic” party for yet another four-year stretch.
Last time I passed by what was my “local”(“County”) Democratic Party office (about two weeks ago) the lights were on, the 'open" sign was in the window, but there was NO ONE staffing the office. There was a desk a few paces inside the office with some current flyers on it. The office was clean and free of old campaign stuff, but I could have walked right thru the small building and into the next block.
How fitting all this is, and how much work needs to be done. DNC Chair is the functional equivalent to being the commander of a circular firing squad.
Like any spoiled child, the more concessions you make to them, the more outraged they will be when they inevitably can’t have something they want.
But the Berners hate Obamacare. Hillary’s assertion that it’s the best we can do for now was completely rejected by this wing of the party. Now they’re going to support it ? Now that we lost. Gee thanks.
Um, I mean with the Dems looking at 4 straight years of phone calls/lettering writing/protests coming up wouldn’t those high-endurance whining skills be super helpful?
Though I’ll also say frankly that in the last two elections now, a shitton of money and a huge amount of effort got expended on GOTV that failed to get the goddamn vote out, and the DNC really needs to find out why.
Or, maybe doing this would be more fruitful:
The Berniecrats, lol. It’s like you’re talking from a majority perspective, fatigued by hearing from the handful of illegitimate “Berniecrat” upstarts. The Democrat party will continue to lose with the establishment orientation which Perez represents. Look what these people have done to the party, do you really want to continue losing?
It’s already happening. The more interesting result might be if the Democratic party strategically disbands, leaving the country wide open to being independent or GOP. That would be interesting, the two party system is bs anyway.
I agree. I am 62 and have been involved in local stuff for 35 years, and it is time for guys my age to step aside unless they have a proven record of winning and sustaining majorities in Congress and state legislatures. Guys like me did not think to put our ears to the train tracks— we just looked at the schedule to figure out when the train arrived. Tat’s not good enough anymore.
Agreed…
And its the DNC.
The establishment is represented already.
Dean was an outsider of sorts and things worked well under him.
Seems logical if all sides are represented and also feel respected, especially when out of power that things work best
Who was the original promoter/backer of DWS? If that person is still in the backing/promoting business take their pick and go as far from that pick as possible.
So you’re good with the way things are? Sounds like you can find what you are looking for with the GOP.
So what are you doing about it? Besides complaining on internet comments?
I don’t know how much space there really is between Perez and Ellison, but I think a moderate voice is what is really needed right now and I think Perez fits that bill. Going into the 2018 mid-terms we are going to have a bunch of Senators up for re-election in red or purple states that need the backing of a DNC that is not dragged farther to Left…that could spell disaster for the party as a whole. Keith Ellison has a bright future but his wing of the party was defeated during the primary and they do not represent the majority of Democrats. They have the passion and the energy and all of that but most importantly they have a losing message. The future head of the DNC needs to bring the party back to the “new Democrats” that President Clinton championed in the '90s. If Perez is willing to do that then I think the party will be in good shape moving forward.
You misunderstand my position, dissolving the Dems would end the dysfunction and national pathology that have given us this asshat potus. The GOP will tend to have more power than they should than if we had a real democracy, for one thing they employ propaganda effectively and have no morals, winning is the end and justification. Dems unfortunately don’t have the coherence, unity, or narrowly focused ideals, they are like herding cats and they’ve been taken over by the corporate class. Just look at the vote against drug importation, some of your favorites voted with big pharma against their constituents. No buddy, i’m going in the way opposite direction of the GOP, and we should all be against dino domination of the Dem party if its going to try to still exist, which is becoming less important every day…
Respectfully, i couldnt disagree more.
The Future of the party will not be looking to the past.
It’s not just that the DNC needs a moderate voice, it’s that the last thing Demicratic candidates need is a fatal distraction in their re-election campaigns. As you note, these candidates will be predominantly Democratic Senators in Red States where Trump won bigly. If Ellison becomes DNC chair, then every one of the Republican opposition campaigns in these states will tie the Democrstic incumbent Senator to Ellison. It will be a disaster.
Maybe what you call whining is wanting to win. I swear you centrist types have had corporate hands up your butts so long you have lost all memory of being for all the people.
Who give a rip about winning safe gerrymandered districts. I want to win the house and Senate. First, I want to win state legislatures and break gerrymandering. Anybody who doesn’t is part of the problem.
