Discussion: Ditka 'Embarrassed' For STL Rams Players Who Protested Grand Jury Decision

Sounds interesting! Can this be arranged to be done later this week?

It takes a special kind of person to say something like this:

“I don’t want to hear about this hands-up crap. That’s not what happened. I don’t know exactly what did happen, but I know that’s not what happened. This policeman’s life is ruined. Why?”

Let me get this straight Mike. You weren’t there, you don’t what happened but you do know what DIDN’T happen. If you weren’t there, how do you know it didn’t happen? Probably because this is what racist white people have to know in order to justify senseless murders of black people.

Was he ever relevant? I thought he just yelled at jocks.

Poor Ditka. He sounds dumber and more concussed every time he opens his yap about social issues. Would that he could stick to irrelevant stuff like football.

…and tell me again why I should care what this self serving freeloader has to say about anything.

He spent his whole career in Chicago thinking merchants should just give him things free because of who he is.

Mike Ditka, just another clueless, old, white guy. Not news.

I’m embarrassed that people still listen to what Mike Ditka has to say. Won’t be long before he’s out on his lawn yelling at clouds and kids to get off his lawn.

Mike Ditka, the poster child for the NFL’s dark legacy of traumatic brain injury!

Mike Ditka should be embarrassed for Mike Ditka.

You’re right. You don’t. So better that you sit down, shut up, and learn something you don’t understand, so you can understand it.

As a white woman, I’m pretty clear on my boundaries applied by my own levels of privilege when it comes to this particular problem (along with many others), so I make it a point to bloody listen and LEARN about this stuff. What’s your true capability of being an ally in this fight if you have no f-ing clue what the issues are?

No point in bellowing my ignorance of a topic to the world…hey Mike? Be more like me, and less like you.

I didn’t even know he was still alive .

There was a thing on On Point today talking with Jonathan Rauch, who wrote the article on (the so-called) midlife crisis. Another of the guests said that research shows that aging comes with wisdom, empathy, ability to think longterm. All I could do was wonder how many d*mned repukkklicans participated in any of the research.

Ditka is probably still mad at Hank Aaron for beating Babe Ruths HR record. Tommy Smith and John Carlos at the 68 Olympics. Muhammad Ali for changing his name, opposing the Vietnam War and puting his career in jeopardy. Pettiness sadly has a long life or the man suffers from CTE.

Listen? Learn? Look, he’s a COACH.

The comments on the Facebook article(s) going around are truly disappointing. Lots of pro-Ditka pro-“values”, “Brown was a criminal”, “Police are the victims” stuff, and worse. Sigh. I can’t understand how people can see this so differently.

Based on past performance, I would have said that Ditka was incapable of being embarrassed.

I’m thinking of the playoff game between the Bears and the 49ers in January of 1985 when the line on the game was the 49ers by 9 1/2 points.

“German army couldn`t beat us with 9 1/2 points,” growled coach Mike Ditka, mindful that the German army, like the 49ers, had a history of scoring early. San Francisco, though, is better at holding a lead.

The score of the game was

                            	1 2	3 4	Final
Chicago Bears (10-6-0) 0 0	0 0 0
San Francisco 49ers (15-1-0) 3 3	7 10 23

The 49ers went on to win the Super Bowl, beating Miami 38-16.

No, the headline should be: Ditka embarasses NFL with insane rant. Family immediately admits him for psychiatric eval.

I don’t think you’re old fashioned Mike. It’s obvious what your problem is. You’re a fucking racist idiot.

“This policeman’s life is ruined.”

He’s doing a lot better than Michael Brown.

The cult of celebrity (paying attention to people we have no business paying attention to) continues. Only this reaction we all knew would take this turn. Ditka’s slant is fairly well known. The tragedy is that this talented politician (Barack Obama) brought forth this virulent anti-black racism (held by a sizable percentage of the white population) through little fault of his own. The Right knew that this was the best way to stoke opposition against him. FOX, Talk Radio, MSM “false equivalency” did the rest.

It worked.

Not only has the Right enjoyed unprecendented success, but feckless democrats who expected miracles instantly in 2009 stopped voting in subsequent off-year elections. The miracle is that Mr. Obama won in 2012.

I suspect that anti-black racism has always been here, will always be here and will be held by those whites terrified with the idea of “being overrun” by a sea of black and brown “inferiors”. Simultaneously, among whites of a fair amount of ability to withstand these fears and most of the rest of America, race relations have been improving dramatically over the last 50-60 years. Particularly among the Young (and isn’t that what Martin Luther King always wanted?) As we all know, of course, and the nub of the tragedy, is that the aforementioned racists cover a lot of ground, are very passionate, vote a lot, are stoked by FOX and Talk Radio, are now in Gerrymandered Congressional districts and, for the most part have and will receive a Permanent Pardon for their sins (so long as the mouse clicks and TV sponsor-bait keep on rollin’). And like a lot of tragedies, this one has two parts:

The racists vote
The “non-racists” vote a lot less

At least, with the next Democratic President, there will likely be less Jim Crow racism on the political landscape. Not because the virulently racist whites have gone away, but because stoking them would be less expedient in fighting a Democratic WHITE President.

By that time, we will care even less about Mike Ditka than we do now.

So it’s ok for vandals to burn the businesses of innocent people, putting thousands out of work, ( thus they won’t be able to pay for food for their families and possibly lose their homes) steal, assault and threaten to assault innocent people to express that “we should not be in the position of having to celebrate the memory of another young black man who was needlessly murdered before his time had come”,
but it’s not ok for someone… anyone …just to express their opinion? Bull! http://youtu.be/VT2v64Ykxc0
