Discussion for article #230784
He’s certainly correct that there are many things Mike Ditka does not understand.
Maybe he IS old fashioned. He certainly doesn’t get it.
Does anybody really give a shit about what Mike Ditka thinks. I know I don’t
Mike, you should have stuck with selling beer!
Something tells me that if Ditka’s white son was murdered in the street by a police officer he’d have a different opinion.
Maybe I’m just old fashioned.
I usually don’t turn to football coaches for a deeper understanding of social issues, but when I do it’s never Mike Ditka.
“It’s a shame this thing has come to this,” Ditka said. "The shame of it is, I’m not sure they care about Michael Brown or anything else. This was a reason to protest and to go out and loot. Is this the way to celebrate the memory of Michael Brown? Is this an excuse to be lawless? Somebody has to tell me that. I don’t understand it.
What I don’t understand is how someone who understands so little about this situation would feel compelled to share an opinion on it with the media. I mean where would he get the idea that the protests are about “celebrating the memory of Michael Brown.” Is it so hard to comprehend that the protestors are saying we should not be in the position of having to celebrate the memory of another young black man who was needlessly murdered before his time had come? That we can no longer tolerate young men of color being gunned down in the streets under the color of “law enforcement?” How is that hard to understand?
Ditka, talking out of his ass is a normal thing.
What scares me most? With each passing year Ditka becomes a higher intensity flaming a$$hole. Does that reflect on what might happen to me when I get old and irrelevant?
Nah. I’m old and I still give a shit about other people.
And there, in a nutshell, is almost the entirety of public discourse in this country.
I would say I am embarrassed for Mike Ditka, but that would imply that I thought he was capable of better, and that wouldn’t be the case.
And that the policemen who do gun them down should be held publicly accountable for it.
Ditka should be more embarrassed for the Bears, who’re playing like they confused the surrender signal for “Touchdown!”
Well it seems that there are lots of things that the old coach should find embarrassing
He is pretty much of an out of control - no filter - boor.
I live in Chicago, so have found Coach’s, er, “thoughts” unavoidable for many years. On any given issue you know exactly what his thoughts will be. In that respect, he’s like, say, John McCain. But he’s more interesting than McCain, who has been saying exactly the same thing for thirty years, because in the end he’s more like Sarah Palin: always finding new and amazing ways of expressing tired ideas in utterly stupid ways that no educated person could have dreamed up.
Will be interesting to see what they find when they finally slice his brain and put a piece under the microscope.
“I have a different question. Why aren’t the Rams still in LA?”
Georgia Frontiere was the kind of person who liked to break up. (Married seven times).
Why would any publication waste space to talk about Mike Ditka? Who cares? Maybe somebody, sorry to say.
