Discussion for article #223625
Yeppers. They’re not going to be able to shut it down, Sheriff or no Sheriff. Somebody will keep pulling on the thread and the whole thing is going to unravel. I just hope it happens slowwwwllyyy… Ideally would be if the indictments are handed down the day before the run-off vote.
Damn, you gotta love it. No need to watch summer reruns. Only this time I’m going with Cracker Jacks.
“Criminal Intentions” or not, trespassing is still trespassing, right?
Depends on how big the “contributions” were to the sheriff’s re-election campaign fund were.
If the “contributions” were big enough, they didn’t have any “intentions” to commit a criminal act and were just lost. at 11:30. in the courthouse. where the ballots were.
Actually, I think the sheriff used the wrong words. There were no criminal actions beyond simple trespassing, because they weren’t able to go anywhere. But it’s far from clear whether there was any criminal intent, given that they were campaign workers who went into an obviously closed-up courthouse where ballots were stored.
The security camera videos ought to be interesting! They do have security cameras in MS, right?
“District Attorney Asked To Probe Mississippi Courthouse Caper”
Let’s all hope it’s trans-anally.
I’m glad this isn’t ending with the sheriff’s investigation. I don’t think this country is perfect, but I have certain minimum expectations: the drinking water doesn’t give you cholera, you don’t have to bribe anyone to get your driver’s license renewed, people don’t fuck around with the vote count, stuff like that.
But forgive us our trespasses… you gotta get wid the program!
Ref: I think the 11AM should be changed to PM. Why the sheriff stopped his investigation might be another investigation. Something is rotten in Hines country.
Apparently the gang that can’t shoot straight, in addition to getting themselves locked in, were unable to access the ballots. I should think they could be charged with conspiracy–a stupid, incompetent conspiracy, but a conspiracy, nonetheless.
Seriously, and this guy got more votes than the other guy? Mississippi wants to be first in something and by Gawd they’re going to have the most corrupt representative in the nation, or else!
I am thinking the very same thing. Not only was it remarkably quick, but the conclusion was rather…oddly emphasized. Namely, the Sheriff’s Department was not involved in anyway. Not the slightest. Didn’t give directions, didn’t see or speak to anyone…nothing. And after they repeatedly made that point, they were done with the investigation.
Serious eye brow raiser and head scratcher…but then this entire campaign has been quite puzzling.
Wouldn’t it be better if indictments are handed down after the runoffs? Assuming the Ds are actually running a candidate for the slot, wouldn’t it be better if crazy person and law breaker McDaniel were the indicted-before-the-general ® candidate?
i just can’t imagine this will result in anything… the d.a. hasn’t agreed to investigate; and they’ve had plenty of time of get their stories straight if asked again. i mean, hell, if that horrible nursing home invasion didn’t result in mcdaniels losing, what’s a little vote tampering.
If you got lock-in at 11:30pm why would it take you two and one half hours to call for help???!!!
They didn’t go in until sometime around 2 am, long after everyone else left and it was locked for the night. That’s a huge red flag right there. They called sometime after 2, and were let out close to 4, so they were in for a long time.
The DA did agree to investigate. From the  linked article:
Smith said late Friday he agreed to his office conducting an
investigation. He said the investigation would begin immediately and he
hopes to have it completed over the next several days.
…
" Even if there was no criminal activity, it still doesn’t account for
why these three individuals were in the county courthouse afterhours
with no county employee," Graham said. “We have no information whether
they had criminal intentions or not. We don’t know how long they were in
there…We need to have a total accounting.”
