I can hardly wait for this trickle of a realization that Trump has been conā€™ing these fools from the get go becomes a flood.

He cons everyone. Why should his supporters be any different?

Did trumps supporters actually believe the lies he was telling was for our ears only? What planet are you living on, you people need a reality check . Hereā€™s a fact you need to deal with we are a melting pot our country will always have a blend of different colored skinned people. If you donā€™t like it go find an island to live on somewhere.

Nothing fills me with rage more than these peopleā€¦and Iā€™m so irish-white that Iā€™m almost translucent. Canā€™t stand them. We use the word ā€œhateā€ loosely a lot of the time as convenient idiom, but I truly TRULY hate these people.

Good article and a record that needs to be established but much of the central thrust seems by-the-by: Of course white supremacists feel disappointed with Trump ā€“ as they would with anyone who didnā€™t leap immediately into crystalnacht and internment camps ā€“ and some will turn to terrorism in their disappointment no doubt. That will probably be stamped out fairly readily but the turn to foreign powers and agencies may find greater persistance and present wider danger.

White nativism in the US has different roots and is less developed philosophically than the occult Fascism of Russiaā€™s Alexander Dugin (ā€œPutinā€™s Rasputinā€) but it shares enough of the same root hatreds and xenophobic repulsion to find common cause, at least for now. That is a potential source of some serious weaponry both physical and cyber with mayhem to match.

There really is a need analytically to make the distinction between nativism and nationalism more distinct because white nationalists ā€“ genuine ā€˜American Firstā€™ proponents if you will ā€“ would not find alliance with international autocracies as easy as groups like Spencerā€™s appear to.

I suppose America will always have itā€™s Booboisie, but it always ends badly for those that pick and then start to fight. Ref: US Civil War.

It doesnā€™t exactly help white nationalistsā€™ end-goals when they canā€™t even agree on a working definition of ā€œwhite.ā€ To wit, Spencer is married to a woman of Georgian extractionā€”a heritage that other American white nationalists believe lies beyond the type of ā€œwhiteā€ acceptable to their movement.

I still look on with bemusement as racists argue over whether people literally from the Caucasus count as white.

Cowards. Every one of them. Theyā€™re straight, white men. They own all the power and privilege that comes with that. Yet theyā€™re scared. Scared enough that they want to drive out anybody who isnā€™t straight, white, or male. Or failing that, create a white homeland (ironically the ultimate safe space) so they donā€™t have to sully themselves with people who donā€™t look or think like them. They never have to face a new thought or idea. They never have to face their own failings as human beings.

On the specific topic of Trump, of course he disappointed them. His campaign was just a big con job. I donā€™t believe heā€™s especially bigoted. He just saw an opening to appeal to bigotry and it worked. His appeal to white nationalism was just a tool to get him what he wanted. Now heā€™s in the White House, heā€™s back to doing what he does best. Lining his pockets with other peopleā€™s hard work. We can just be thankful that heā€™s so extraordinarily incompetent heā€™ll be out of a job before the year is through. Of course that bring up the specter of President Pence, who is genuinely bigoted. But that will have to be dealt with when it happens.

ā€œā€œI do feel a little bitā€”I donā€™t know. God, this is going to make me sound patheticā€¦ā€

Every time you open your mouth you sound pathetic, Richard.

Thereā€™s that thing in drama called the willing suspension of disbelief. Thatā€™s Trump voters.

Ah, but it has to be the right white. Or alt-right white, I guess.

Sad, pathetic little snowflakes. Itā€™s just a damn shame that they are having so much trouble spreading their hatred. This being Friday, tonight I will raise a glass of whiskey in their honor, with a hearty ā€œfuck you guys.ā€

Booboisieā€¦I LOVE that!

ā€œthat sock-heard-round-the-world, a protester sending Spencer flying, flipping the white nationalist from a force to a farce.ā€

I have no sympathy or tolerance for these scumbags.

Fascinating piece. One I plan to reread in a day or so. A thought i had while reading, could Trump supporters use this article as ā€œproofā€ that Trump isnā€™t a racistā€¦rather his campaign just followed Rovian strategy to a further extreme. Putinā€™s funny comment during the Kelly interview supports the idea, ā€œI felt he went too farā€¦[pause, laughter from audience]ā€¦but he still won.ā€

Another thought is something Iā€™ve been obsessed with for years. The Civil War never ended, the old North and the South factions are nearly identical to the current Blue and Red electoral maps. Iā€™ve argued that in 25, 50 years, this divide/conflict will start to look more like the Sunni and the Shiasā€¦in the sense that wounds run deep, resolution seems impossible and permanent conflict inevitable.

Seems odd that as society, culture, economics, politics continues to grow globally, so does the rise of micro-tribes based on various signifiers of identity.

Welcome to awareness, fuckstick. The next step toward adulthood is learning to love your neighbors.

If they want to go into distressed communities in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana and engage in from the ground up community building, okay, but I donā€™t understand, exactly, why they think that particular goal is enhanced by directing violence at anyone, or by some kind of whites only ethos. As for being disappointed by Trump ā€“ did they really think he could just target people by race or religion without being challenged? Or even more to the point, the idea that they trusted him at all just shows how out of touch these guys are. He isnā€™t trustworthy. Anyone with a brain, including Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan, can see that immediately. Thatā€™s one reason why they supported him. They knew he didnā€™t mean what he was saying.
