Discussion for article #224419
Brilliant. And more than anything else, it reinforces the absurdity of the “law” he’s trying to use, which is nothing more than an infringement of individual voting rights. If I’m an effectively disenfranchised voter because my party is in more or less permanent minority status locally or state-wide, It’s in my best interest to register (or in Mississippi’s open primary case) simply vote in favor of the majority party candidate who’s most competent to represent me. Growing up around Pittsburgh, I knew a lot of people who voted Republican nationally, but were registered Democrats so they could vote in the closed primaries for local candidates, because Democrats were going to win those offices anyway.
But then again, voter infringement just comes naturally to Mississippians, doesn’t it?
Would love to have a reporter ask Mr. McDaniel about this. But not as much as I’d love him to launch a third party run.
