“We’re also studying drowning, but will not look at the role of water in those events.”

Betsy DeVos, every bit as horrible as expected.

It’s almost like there needs to be a 2nd Amendment solution to all of this…

Focus will be on slips, trips and falls. Also attacks on students by their transgender and minority peers.

FFS.

This announcement by Betsy DeVos doesn’t really merit much deliberation- it’s simply and deliberately negligent while also being patently ridiculous.

The closest analogy I can imagine is if someone were to enpanel a study of the U.S. Navy with the understanding that no mention of water or boats would be permitted.

Crazy or Corrupt. Take your pick.

Ignoring Gun Violence is the official policy of the republican-controlled government; regardless of who or how many are killed and maimed.

"The Dickey amendment, an annual appropriations provision, states that "None of the funds made available in this title may be used, in whole or in part, to advocate or promote gun control.”

“We’re going to figure out how we can stop students from getting in the way of bullets. Because that’s not good for the bullets.”

The commission isn’t allowed to make laws about anything. So it should just disband?

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos revealed to a federal Commission on Tuesday that her department is studying the theory of gravity without including scientific evidence or the Laws of Physics in their research saying, “We prefer the faith-based approach to scientific discovery.”

Betsy DeVos: Proof positive that you can be simultaneously wealthy and stupid.

My sense for irony is severely strained- please tell me your text and quote are snark.

Otherwise I think Carl Sagan’s enraged corpse just sprung fully from his grave.

“We are actually studying school safety and how we can ensure our students are safe at school.”

Now, I don’t have a graduate degree in public policy, but I suspect that school shootings…

MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH GUNS!!!

But I’m willing to admit that I could be wrong.

Well I do have a graduate degree in Safety; Security and Emergency Management with graduate certificates in School and Occupational Safety, and professionally speaking her statement is pure bullshit.

DeVos later clarified her response:

"It isn’t exactly accurate to say we are not considering the role of guns as they relate to school safety.

“I have talked with my brother, Erik, about the possibility of contracting him to negotiate a deal with Israeli weapons manufacturer Silver Shadow to arm every student in America with a Gilboa Snake and two 30-round magazines.”

[/quote]And not only do school shootings have something to do with guns, deaths of students, teachers and staff while at school have a lot to do with guns - except for the occasional athlete with a congenital heart condition or faculty member who eats a few extra eclairs from the refrig in the faculty lounge.

Maybe, just maybe, they will study, per se, non-lethal injuries caused by everything except guns - pencil sharpeners, paper cuts, walking into doors, hamstring strains in P.E., …

The gun thing they should know the answer to. It’s just that no Republican can say it or even admit it (pssst, it has something to do with reasonable gun acquisition and access regulation, and capacity and assault-style weapon bans - but you didn’t hear that here).

So glad education is a priority.

That’s just some typical liberal, leftwing, theoretical opinion. Get real !
