He’s sorry for having gotten caught repeatedly, so that he no longer holds one of the most powerful offices in the country.
And “unprecedented”? Just what level of public attacks would be appropriate for a hypocritical money-laundering child-molester?
I knew he was going to play the “decline in health” card when he shuffled into court, all hunched over. A ploy for sympathy, that’s all
Before we get carried away with the “throw him in jail for the rest of his life” sentiment, let’s all try to remember that what he’s being sentenced for is “structuring” his cash withdrawals to avoid Federal reporting requirements, and then lying about it.
He is not being sentenced for paying hush money. He is not being sentenced for sexually abusing teenagers several decades ago.
He’s deeply sorry? I guess that settles it, then. What’s the latest on Benghazi?

Some of Speaker Hastert’s misconduct that occurred decades ago:
- The Clinton impeachment.
- Claiming “a direct connection between Iraq and al-Qaeda”.
- The Iraq War Resolution.
- The “Patriot” Act.
- Saying John McCain “did not understand the meaning of sacrifice”.
- Cutting taxes during wartime.
- Publicly selling private audiences to lobbyists.
- Saying New Orleans “could be bulldozed” after Katrina.
- The Hastert Rule.
- The Foley cover-up.
- Suspending votes for hours, while arm twisting and offering campaign dollars to members’ children.
But he only apologizes for harm to “Individual A”…

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) said in a court filing Wednesday that he was “deeply sorry” for decades-old misconduct and “prepared to accept responsibility” for his actions.
A sentencing memo filed by Hastert’s lawyers, in which they asked for probation, did not specify the “unfortunate and harmful incidents he caused decades ago.”
Gosh, maybe it’s just me, but I tend to think that when you won’t even say out loud what the “unfortunate incidents” were, but you do make a big point of how long ago it was, maybe you’re not really ready to “accept responsibility.”
Given what sea level is, and where it’s headed, and where New Orleans is, I’m not sure I’d convict him on that one. 
And when the Mississippi finally breaks through and reroutes itself through the Atchafalaya Basin, leaving places like Baton Rouge and New Orleans sitting on a brackish, stagnant backwater that quickly silts up…
Mr. Hastert is “deeply sorry” he got caught and that’s about the extent of it.

His political conduct was as lousy, a real mediocre slob.
A real right wing sociopath who deserves the worst.
He will never be tried for destroying the working relationship between Republicans and Democrats that allowed the U.S. Senate to function; to get the nations business done, either. So I’m OK with him serving a long, long sentence for money laundering. Some of the biggest criminals have been put away for tax evasion, so he’ll be among his peers in history.

Sorry, but I strongly disagree. This is why we have a justice system, rather than mobs of villagers with pitchforks.
If you sentence people based not on what they’ve actually been convicted of, but instead based on what you “just know” they’ve done, you no longer have a justice system.
Decades old, but I wonder if it isn’t decades long also. The others just didn’t come forward? There’s NEER just one victim!!
