Trump is Hitler rising.

All the Tepublicans and Republicans are either afraid of Trump or they truly want our Democracy to become a fascist government.

Senator Schumer is right. This is does smell like Neil Gorsuch was deploying a carefully orchestrated two-faced propaganda campaign to increase his chances of being confirmed. Senator Blumenthal and the CNN’s Chris Cuomo were being used as pawns or vectors for making the propaganda campaign go viral.

Win-win for Neil Gorsuch, win for President Trump, win for Senator Blumenthal who gets to break the news and win for Cuomo for the scoop.

Schumer is kicking some ass, at last. I’ve given him some shit over the years, but he’s stepping up here. Keep it going Chuck. We’ve got your back.

smelled like a scam from the get go…and i felt this was a calculated attempt to force the hand of the dems in the senate.

If his comments sound and look like a ruse, you know he’s just another Scalia and Trump puppet to boot.

Grill him good in the hearing that they wouldn’t even give Garland the courtesy of holding. And then put a skewer in his nomination. Make McConnell go nuclear on the filibuster and watch the 3 million plus who didn’t vote for Trump go nuclear, too, in 2018 and 2020.

If Gorsuch wants to be know for all posterity as fascist Trump’s choice to help him circumvent the Constitution, that’s his problem not ours. He needs to withdraw his name if he truly thinks that Donald is going to ignore the authority of the courts. That’s the standard by which all of Trump’s nominees are now being held by the world. Even the Chief Justice of the communist Chinese Supreme Court has denounced Trump statements about judges.

It’s not a hard choice. Either you are with a fascist or you are with the Constitution. Gorsuch can’t have it both ways. Neither can the conservative justices already on the SCourt or the Republican Senate that is going to rubber stamp Trump’s disrespect and threats against our courts.

Exactly. They are all in this together…Trump, Gorsuch and McConnell’s fascist-loving Senate. You can’t trust anyone who condones having a NeoNazi as the right hand man of the president.

It’s now or never. Democracy is fading fast.

Once the GOP fascists have packed the courts, they will deny us all voting rights. It’s coming. Why did anyone not believe that Trump and the GOP were not in complete agreement on this all along?

It can happen again and it is. I’d hate to be a Jew, Muslim or gay. They always go after them first. Hispanics might be their focus now but it will tip towards the Unacceptable once Pence and the Religious Right gets into high gear.

The issue can be resolved through questioning in the public hearings. Read the presidents many quotes on the judiciary starting with the statements made during the campaign and ask the nominee what his reaction is. Each questioner can have a different quote and mix it in with other relavent questions.

Ayotte, “not referrring to any specific case,” is significant. Gorsuch’s original statements as teported by Blumenthal were ethically problematic. It is their attempt to “water it down”, and to clarify Gorsuch was not “referring to any specific judge or case” because Gorsuch was out of line ethically if his statement to Blumenthal is true. Also, Sasse makes it more difficult for Gorsuch by saying Gorsuch criticized Robart. Watch to see if Sasse walks this back after they get to him.

The Bar Association needs to step in and I think this should lead to a withdrawal of his nomination by Gorsuch. I’m just saying. I am hearing this from lawyers. Trump is not a lawyer and had more latitude.

It is possible that Gorsuch made the comments in all sincerity while still being a reactionary Scalia-like asshole.

Doesn’t mean he should be on the court, but there are worse jurists out there.

Just to clarify, Sasse said that Gorsuch had criticized Trump’s attack on Judge Robart, and not Robart himself.

Gorsuch will try to weasel out of it by either claiming he can’t comment on ongoing litigation or that he can’t comment on hypotheticals. Or perhaps both. He may well be willing to make Clarence Thomas look like a distinguished jurist chosen entirely for his sterling qualifications.

That will not happen. No judge will say, “I deserve to be there and this is my once in a lifetime chance, but I don’t like the person giving me this opportunity, so I’ll walk away.”

The only chance that he doesn’t wind up on the SC is if he becomes more toxic than DeVos was. Not gonna happen. But I hope the dems will filibuster the shit out of him and hang the future Jesus oriented rulings around republicans’ necks.

Thanks. Big difference. I misread it.

Kelly Ayotte herself said that it was a ploy to have Gorsuch make those comments in order to get Democratic votes for his nomination. Any Democratic Senator who votes to confirm Judge Gorsuch should be primaried. Are you listening Joe Manchin and Heidi Heitkamp. Either stick with all the Democrats and fight your way to defeat the Republican or lose your job for certain by being primaried or no show on voter turn out.

I read the biography of Gorsuch on WaPo the Saturday after his “Celebrity Apprentice Winner” Rollout. He is a dangerous jurist, much more so than Bork, or Scalia. He is even more dangerous than Samuel Alito.

Alito is a Frank Rizzo Republican. He was a founding member of the Federalist Society at Yale Law School. During his hearing, he pulled off the Clarence Thomas act, denying that he had any preconceived positions. His wife wept theatrically because the Democrats were asking him probing and tough questions rather than taking his platitudes as acceptable answers.

As soon as Alito was sworn on the SCOTUS, he began a career of Right Wing ideology in his dissents. Every Sentencing Guideline case at the SCOTUS now includes Alito’s dissent in which he sets forth his intent to roll back United States v Booker and make the Sentencing Guidelines mandatory again, notwithstanding the GOP’s purported hatred of all Regulations.

In Gorsuch’s biography, the defining event is his hard Right Wing political ideology was his mother’s resignation as EPA Director after she was held in contempt of congress for essentially obstructing justice. He actually still believes that she was a victim of hard ball politics and that she was a heroine who should have been praised and canonized for “taking a bullet for Ronald Reagan.”. He is two years younger than Alito was at appointment. I say he is probably the most dangerous Supreme Court nominee I have seen in my 60 years on the planet.

Very much agree with your point that the GOP and Trump are a match made in heaven. Anyone who thinks that the party that has disregarded the spirit and the law of democracy for years is essentially different than Trump is mistaken and naive.
