Gorsuch, by himself, is a poor choice, his temperament and ideological extremism are not the kind of thing we need on the Supreme Court. Add in the treatment of Garland, and the Democrats are doing the right thing in standing against Gorsuch’s nomination. Don’t forget, Republicans threatened to filibuster any nomination Clinton put forward, so they are complete hypocrites not only because of their treatment of Garland but also because they planned to do the exact same thing they are complaining about today.
Nothing can be done about this now, Gorsuch will be installed today…history, however, will show what a poor choice he is, and how Republicans failed the nation in their quest for political dominance by their treatment of the Court.
Forever a name merely picked off a list.
Forever nominated by a racist birther asshole, who probably won’t finish a full term.
Forever pushed through by a disgusting, filthy political party.
So much winning.
And with that Gorsuch’s seat is complete and utter sludge, to be haunted by an asterisk for the rest of his days.
McConnell killed the filibuster long ago – it’s been a kabuki ghost since 2005.
Every single Republican voted to eliminate the filibuster. Party before governance.
Forever a stolen seat on the Court.
Please stay healthy, RBG - we’ll be back in power in 2021 and then you can safely retire.
Take back congress in 2018.
Presidency in 2020.
Pack court
Easy peazy.
Time to find our inner Machiavelli.
When Reid threatened to abolish the filibuster, the GOP threatened to bring everything to a halt by withholding Unanimous Consent and other methods.
Time for the Democrats to flip that promise over and shove it up the Republicans’ ass.
History will only remember it if we and the Democrats keep reminding people and the media. Gorsuch I believe will always be soured and referred to as the Justice appointed by Donald Trump, but the media still does a lot of water carrying for the GOP.
At least Democrats finally got off their knees and fought.
Since we’re on the topic of Dems fighting, can we talk about ending tax exemption for churches yet?
lube free!
who knows, maybe he’ll be hit by a car in 2021…
Exactly, but we still have a lot Democrats who spend too much time wringing their hands that we might become like them. Screw that, let’s fuck them like they fucked us.
And please…CAN WE END TAX EXEMPTION FOR CHURCHES NOW PLEASE? At least talk about it? Churches are building political and business empires on the taxpayer’s backs. They also fight us every step of the way, time to punch them in the face.
Brian Beutler expresses it better than I could. The filibuster has always been deeply undemocratic. Glad it’s gone for SCOTUS. It needs to be abolished for legislation too.
I did a lot of hand wringing when Reid changed the rules in '13. Will this be on McConnell’s tombstone?
If they can be changed all the time by simple majority vote, they aren’t rules and, apparently, have no Constitutional protection.
I hope this is the end of hearing Democratic Senators refer to their Rethug counterparts as “their esteemed” collegues. They are not esteemed and they are not collegues. They are the enemy. Referring to them in congenial terms is a disservice to the people who elected these Democratic Senators to office.
