After two years and two months of sleeping GOP oversight, it has actually begun, things are really ratcheting up now.
Yup, the show is on. Something about the Cohen Hearings Liberated the Democrats, who now feel they can cut loose with the subpeonas/document requests.
But, just a reminder that Impeachment is not on the table. Currently Trump is getting 46% support (See NBC/WSJ poll: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/nbc-news-wsj-poll-2020-race-will-be-uphill-trump-n978331) and the evidence needs to be collected and explained to the American people. We may see Trump as corrupt, but a lot of folks have not gotten the message…

There seems to be an error in these documents: both refer to people whose names I do not recognize, specifically “the honorable Jim Jordan” and “the honorable Devin Nunes”. Some mistake there, because there not a shard of honor in or upon either of these douchebags.
He is setting records with his hands. Julius Erving told him they’re the biggest hands he’s ever seen. True story.
It would be great if this led to some real, actionable information. I’m skeptical though. This may be a waste of the committee’s time.
From what I’ve read, translators don’t necessarily remember the content of conversations they’re translating “on the fly.” It’s a sort of automatic process where you don’t pay much attention to the content. Whatever hand-written notes they take are in a personal shorthand for review if needed immediately afterwards, and usually destroyed after that.
It seems to me that a translator could say they don’t remember what was said, they no longer have notes to remind them, and it might be plausible. They’ll be backed up by all the other professional translators out there in government service, who really don’t want to be put in this position. I do hope something comes out that’s useful, but I think this may be a dead end.
As I keep saying, Trump’s support falls in two camps. There are the strong supporters, which is currently 31% of the public (again NBC/WSJ numbers) and then there are 15% which “somewhat approve”. On the flip side, 43% strongly disapprove of Trump’s performance, and 9% somewhat disapprove. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5756864-19062-NBCWSJ-February-Poll.html
Those 15% “approve” of Trump “somewhat” because of a number of things, the economy, standing up to China/foreigners, boarder security, being “strong”, being pro-Christian, etc.
BUT currently 30% have “very positive” and 12% “somewhat” positive feelings about Trump (so his favorability is 4% lower than his approval), and only 27% say “definiately” and 14% “probably” that they will vote for Trump (5% lower than his approval) in 2020.
I point this out because, there is a lot of room beyond his 27%-30% core support and his headline numbers, and the key is to get to those folks, who can be swayed.
This is just like Nixon, whose approval stayed steadily arround 50%, until well it was not:
Not that I expect Trump to fall this far (FOX supports him) but there are lots of folks who are uneasy with Trump, are liking some of what he has done, and are waiting to be convinced why he should go…
I read the headline and said, “Oh, this is good!” I had pretty much forgotten about the translators who I’m guessing have no allegiance at all to PP and his ilk. This is gonna get interesting.
