Discussion: Dems Accuse DeVos' Deputy Of Interfering With Internal Investigation

Money buys freedom…from accountability.

Stunning to think of how much of our nation’s wealth is held by people who live a life largely free of personal accountability. Occasionally, they pay a monetary cost for a poor decision or an unethical act, but it is rarely an amount that has any effect on their daily lives.

Somewhat OT:
I recently listened to a couple podcast episodes on the Theranos fraud, and was delighted to learn that the DeVos family and a number of other very wealthy and conservative families lost investments of hundreds of millions of dollars in that con. They were mostly brought in via a connection to George Shultz or one of his colleagues at The Hoover Institution. Even better, Shultz’s own grandson played a key role in bringing the company’s lies and unethical practices to light.

Department spokeswoman Liz Hill denied the allegations and said they are being made “purely for political gain.”

There’s that automatic projection thing again… it’s all the Trump people do anymore.

They do something unethical and “purely for political gain” and then when they’re called out on it, immediately accuse their “opposition” of doing the exact same thing. It’s like clockwork now. It has replaced the simple “deny, deny, deny” modus operandi, and shifted to “deny deny deny by pointing at the accuser and declaring them responsible”…

Dems don’t generally do these kinds of things. They tend to hew more closely to “ethical lines”. Not perfect, but a far cry from the version of “Democrats as described by Republicans” we’re getting so accustomed to…

At some point, we need to start drawing clear ethical lines and demand that everyone operate within those guidelines. Of course that would require Senate approval, and old Mitch isn’t too keen on approving anything that slows his headlong rush to transform our country into a Russian Plutocracy…

This is what a good “MAGA Swamp Draining” looks like, doncha know… we drain ‘the swamp’ of all its oligarchs, billionaires and ne’er-do-wells, and then hire them all back as “acting directors” of various agencies, or get them approved by the Senate (an easy task, since a gross minority of red-state Americans vote a gross majority of Senators into office), then unleash them on the agencies they mostly hate and want to break. Yes, Trump filled his cabinet with “like-minded” wealthy people who want nothing more than to drag America down to its knees, leaving most of us begging for morsels to be handed down from the vaults by the anointed few…

It disgusts me to no end…

Inconceivable!

You keep using that word. I suspect that it means exactly what you think it means.

The Reeps don’t usually do things ‘purely for political gain.’ They want monetary gain first and foremost. Ain’t nothing pure about them.
