Discussion: Democrats See Tax Overhaul Fallout As Leverage To Retake Congress In 2018

Here is your ā€œconsistent messageā€:

ā€œThis is a payday loan at 110 percent that YOU have to pay back. They donā€™t.ā€

Letā€™s see that simple, repeatable message get ignored in favor of charts within quintile breakdowns and 10,000 word lectures.

Trickle Down 4.0

ANYONE who reads ā€œgoose the economyā€ and ā€œincrease pay up and down the economic ladderā€ and doesnā€™t see red is just, well, donā€™t get me startedā€¦

Democrats need to keep it simple: GOP fat cats in Congress lower taxes for themselves, strip 13 million of health care, and will use the deficit increase from this reckless act to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

This plan adds about $5000 of debt to every man, woman and child in the US so that corporations and the wealthy get billions.

Wise words my grandmother spoke when I was 10 years old.

The first thing the Demā€™s need to do is make sure that any potential Dem Voter, in a state requiring a photo id to vote, gets one ASAP, to prevent the usual GOP election shenanigansā€¦

He will not show his tax return in spite of claiming it would show how great a businessman he is and yet he brags about every other ā€œgreatā€ thing ā€œheā€ has done.

It is true that Republicans only care about rich people however Democratic donors made out on the Republican tax scam too. While we should expect to see a lot of noise coming from the Dems about this economic atrocity I donā€™t see them ever doing more than reversing small symbolic chunks. This has been their M.O. for decades.

And - new polling - majority mostly believe that he committed sexual assaults.

If only the Democrats would replace Nancy Pelosi. Sure, sheā€™s a great fundraiser, but canā€™t someone who represents youth and change take her place? Her seat is safe, but outside of San Fransisco she alone probably costs a few seats elsewhere. Time to move on.

Message: ā€œWatch what they do in attempts to ā€˜cut the budgetā€™ because of ā€˜deficitsā€™ - which have just been made larger with the tax ā€˜overhaulā€™.ā€

And we have to keep getting media coverage of Mulvaneyā€™s projected cuts. It is the combination of the upward push of money towards the wealth with the cuts for services and the public good for most Americans that is mostly likely to sway independents and more traditional republicans (not Trumpioids).

Those are all the obvious facts that were ignored by Trump voters. ā€œā€¦but heā€™s a successful businessman and can get things done!ā€ say the hobbits and deplorables.

Mueller has to produce clear, unassailable proof of his criminality; nothing ambiguous or too complicated. The groundwork is already being done to cast doubt on anything less.

Democrats seem oblivious to the 8 million ton gorilla in the room: Trump is president. How the hell does a clown of his magnitude win the White House? Democrats donā€™t seem to know how to win even when every possible advantage is in their court. Again, the very fact that Drumpf is POTUS proves beyond a doubt that Dems should NEVER assume theyā€™re going to win or that they are at all making a case for voters. As overwhelming as the Dem advantage seems to be, they will somehow figure out a way to botch the midterms. Finally, the rethuglicans will figure out a way to show that the tax plan resulted in some tiny amount of money to come back to tax payers, just in time for the election; thatā€™ll be enough to make people think the tax plan isnā€™t all that bad. Again, the GOP will have outflanked the Dems and will steal elections across the country. Lather, rinse, repeat. Sigh.

What fatuous twaddle.

She of the ā€œkeeping Dems in line to stay united against year-long GOP assaults on healthcareā€? That Nancy Pelosi? Sheā€™s quite the failure, that old sop.

ā€¦but canā€™t someone who represents youth and change take her place?

Tell you what, hunny: you go out and find viable candidates who meet that criteria. Do it all by yourself, and when you do, everyone here will recognize your superior organizational skillz. But, before you set out on your heroic quest, remember that the Magical Youth has friends who donā€™t vote when it counts, donā€™t have money and are quickly bored. Good luck, Frodo.

PS: Seth Moulton is already working on this, except heā€™s doing a weird thing called ā€œthe long game,ā€ not really trying to satisfy easily distracted people who fixate on Nancy Pelosi in the same manner as right wingers do and demand an immediate fix.

There needs to be a then to make sense of that. Do you mean to suggest that she is the greatest barrier to Democratic success? Iā€™d ask for evidence, but Iā€™m too busy struggling not to laugh.

You got somebody in mind? Care to make an argument for why that person should be Speaker? Or at least to reveal a name? Or is this just the continuation of an aimless bitching session about Pelosi?

Just how probable is that? And why is it probable at all? Shed some light on the subject, for crying out loud. Where did you come by this information? Are you saying itā€™s common knowledge?

A perfect lesson in begging the question. Well done. Iā€™ll bet you aced Sophistry 101.
