Yep, don’t give WALL any credence by discussing it, just ignore it - and it will piss Donald off ! Nice !
It seems reasonable to me that Dems preface everything with “Everyone in the country knows that the President isn’t trustworthy and that he will bow to pressure brought by outside interests. He’s done it time and time again (footnote listing times). What we must do is offer our plans for real, meaningful border security rather than symbolic responses to fears planted by opportunists.”
Go back to room and watch TV Donnie. The grown ups are talking.
He’s even reneged on saying WALL could be a barrier or a fence or steel slats or a bead curtain or that certain look in your eyes now he says let’s not play “political games” but just call it a WALL but there’s no reasoning with him about anything it’s like talking to a WALL a strong powerful WALL did I mention WALL.
The Dems need to make sure that the damage from another shutdown will be blamed on Trump and the GOP. It puts them in a dilemma where they either piss off Trump’s base or the rest of the country. Walk right into that trap, Spanky, it would be worth it to see your ratings and the GOP ratings drop like a stone.
Since I don’t see it above (yet): herewith shorter Nancy/Chuck:
He really has no options. He blew it with the shutdown. He thought that he would be able to bully Pelosi and couldn’t. Now all he has is the threat of another shutdown, which the GOP doesn’t want, and the threat of an emergency declaration. He’s holding a weak hand, and everyone knows it. Besides, he thinks that negotiating is weak. He’ can’t negotiate because his idiot hordes think that giving anything is failure.
That’s the correct response. And when confronted, and forced to discuss it, ask why Trump opposes intelligent border security.
“Never. Is never good enough for you?” -
Nancy “Thor” Pelosi to GWB, 2005
Donnie dug his hole so deep no one can even hear his squeal any more.
This is an easy fight to win, although it may not be painless. Sounds like Democrats have a good start.
One frustration to me has been a major failure of messaging. Democrats should be hammering at every opportunity the point that border crossing are at an historic low and have been for years. They should be pressing journalist to hit Republicans on this point at every opportunity. This is incredibly important information for moderates and independents – the people who will elect the next president.
Hostage-taking has successfully pushed the negotiation to the right.
I heard the other day that part of the reason Dems refused in December to fund a wall is that they had just passed a bill funding more border security.
The fact that “everything is on the table,” and that Dems are making noises in support of funding other “border security” measures, is all the proof we need that Trump’s charge to the right – while not a slam-dunk success – has still shifted the entire conversation in the direction favored by rightwing nutjobs.
Hostage-taking is working. Apparently, it’s not a silver bullet, but it appears that it does get results. Neither Trump nor the other domestic terrorists we affectionately refer to as the “GOP” will be disincentivized from pulling this shit in the future. Next time, it will probably be another staggering tax giveaway to the wealthy.
HA, I think about this all the time.
Donald Trump is the worst negotiator I’ve ever seen. He is really horrible.
He thinks he’s a fabulous negotiator. The problem is that his idea of a “negotiation” is when he succeeds in swindling someone who doesn’t have the resources to engage in a protracted legal battle. He thinks that stiffing a contractor or employee is a “deal.”
When he’s on a more equal footing, he’s completely lost, and has no idea what to do. That’s why, for example, he overpaid for the Eastern Shuttle by about 20%. The Eastern execs must have been laughing their asses off.
NDP has occasionally called it a beaded curtain.
That’s what I referencing. It was hilarious as usual.
