Discussion: Democrats Grind Senate's Work To A Halt Over Comey Firing

Dude, my senators are Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst. Think I/we can make ANY headway? I’ll postcard their offices anyway, just so I can live with myself…

Fox News anchor, Gregg Jarrett, has decided to support calls for a special prosecutor …

… to investigate Hillary Clinton:

"There should also be a special counsel appointed to re-examine the evidence in the Hillary Clinton case and decide anew whether she violated the law,” Gregg Jarrett, a Fox News anchor and an attorney, said Wednesday.

“You look at the statute, you look at her conduct, and it appears she flagrantly violated the Espionage Act. Leave it to a special counsel to now decide and in the end, perhaps a jury, as to whether Hillary Clinton belongs behind bars,” Jarrett said.

Breaking News: WaPo is reporting that Rosenstein threatened to quit after being presented as an impetus for Comey firing.
He should have gone ahead with his threat – then he would not be disgraced for the rest of his career.

I don’t think that a lame duck Preznident should have a functioning Senate. All matters should definitely be suspended until either the Republicans grow a team spine or until a real President is elected.

No more Russian anything. Not fricking Russian tossed salads or bare chested Pooties until we get an investigation outside of the White House’s influence.

agreed! I saw that and laughed. And then… well I kinda felt proud of those people.

okay, I want to add:
(3) Trumpsky’s mob bosses were coming to visit and they were not happy with how he’s been handling the job they gave him. So he had to serve up something good and quick.

well I can only speak for myself, but I’m definitely not handling it! I do appreciate the humor here, and the information and links, and the thoughtful opinions, the snark, the anger, the outrage, and the talking us off of cliffs. Depending on the moment, I need every one of those things in order to keep getting out of bed in the morning. (which is I admit, sometimes difficult right now.)

But under all of that, I’m just kind of permanently aghast and appalled and scared, and as you said, disgusted. And I think your post states that much better than I could have. Thanks for the dose of seriousness and outrage, it can’t be said enough. TRAITORS. None of us could have ever thought we’d be facing something like this. And yet here we are.

It is not all dark out there.

  1. Is there any scenario, at this point that can vindicate this so called president? I cannot think of any without moving into South Park territory. He can’t pull this back. He will put us through hell, but we will survive him.

  2. The reasonable voters in Trumpland who are paying attention have to be squirming. They have their own existential moments to fret over now. Welcome to the club, enjoy.

  3. And if we think this is how our democracy dies, consider it in the other direction. I would put forth that the Republicans as we know them today are on a death watch A few choice moments in the next few days or weeks will pretty much demolish anyone who is blindly hugging tight to this president.

  4. While we have been concerned about the controversies dying and nothing happens, Trump just gave them eternal life. His actions this week, whether built on Narcissistic Rage or calculated interference have done that. After Tuesday and Wednesday, the ability to make it go away is buried in cement and unattainable.

democrats will fold like the pussies they are

To the most confused and poisonous day in the recent history of American democracy, I can sum my own feelings into three words:
Obstruction of Justice.
There is only one remedy hereafter. It was the same remedy which can be found in the first Article of Impeachment against Richard Nixon.
As Frederick Douglass said: “All else is intrigue.”

Fake News (to be hoped for):

Melania ditches Tyrannosaurus Trump, files for divorce and runs off to Puerto Vallarta with Socalista!

Vice President arrested for indecent exposre: caught masturbating inside the Bob Woodward Memorial Phone Booth outside of the old WashPo headquarters! He’s done had enough of playing waterboy.

Dems are being quite pathetic here. They rolled over and showed their bellies on the Supreme Court nominee, where the Repub behaviour was truly outrageous, but are choosing to make a stand here, where the democratically elected president did

  1. What is unquestionably his right and
  2. What people on different sides of the aisle have been calling for for over a year, and
  3. After giving Comey months and months to oversee any investigations, none of which will stop just because he’s gone.

It’s remarkable how quick Americans are to abandon democracy when it doesn’t give them the answer they want.

This is Trump’s problem. Information on his financial dealings are known by his partners and the intelligence agencies of other governments. This meeting was probably mostly about both sides getting their stories straight. But it seems like Trump will have to move fast to avoid prosecution, asset disgorging, or revelations that he may be more indebted and have a lower net worth than, say, Forbes has been putting out. As things continue to unwind, it is not unimaginable that information on Trump will be volunteered by current and former associates seeking to distance themselves or even for hostile motives. My bet is still on that Trump steps down on or by July 28.

Nice try troll

Yawn.

Having been around at the time, I would dispute that the entire media were against Nixon. The three broadcast networks were of course corporate even then. Things definitely got worse for Nixon when more wrongdoing was exposed. A more appropriate comparison should be made if and when more of Trump’s collusion comes indisputably to light.
I first encountered the work of Jeff Greenfield in 1979. In the Watergate period he was still firmly a partisan Democrat which might affect his perspective. His professional credentials are indisputable. However he has a much better chance of continuing to place numerous articles on Politico* if he remains mindful of its status as the official leak recipient(including authorized Priebus leaks for the benefit of the Apricot aPParatchik ) and off-and-on house organ of what remains of the pre-Trump Republican establishment.

All this said, I wouldn’t dispute that Trump is far from impeachment. I expect his departure to be either by resignation as Jaravanka see continued business deterioration or by the 25 th amendment when the business leaders I watch every day decide they’ve seen enough and “persuade” the cabinet members it’s time for a president who can more efficiently deliver the handouts that corporate America expects and demands. The 1% are coming to consider this “populist s***” a source of unnecessary distraction.
