Discussion: Democrats Elect Tom Perez As National Party Chairman

Fine by me. And the quid-pro-quo of Ellison as associate chair signals some behind-the-scenes smarts on everyone’s behalf. Now let’s get to work.

Senator Sander’s reaction is a typical piece of desparagement of the Democratic Party and part of what discouraged naive voters in the last election.

DP RIP. The consultants and lobbyists win.

Now, will everyone who’s not happy about this outcome get over that and join us all in uniting the party to win future elections? Please?

I’m absolutely over the moon with this result. The edge I thought Perez had over Ellison is that Perez has run a large organization with many moving parts. That sort of experience is important, very important at a time when we are trying to build up a large organization with many moving parts.

Keith Ellison was the embodiment of grace and class in his speech. And Perez was humble and inclusive in his speech, he gets it. It’s too bad the Sanders diehards were screaming ā€œget the money out of politicsā€ while Perez was speaking. Sorry, kids, it’s going to be a very, very long time before that happens with the soon-to-be make up of SCOTUS. You made sure of that.

So what should have been long finished by 1 December is now finished on 25 February.

These guys need to get together and hit the ground running. We need that strategy in place in a hurry - a good, solid strategy - to keep from losing any more ground against an organization we’ve said was dying for the last decade and are now in more power than the Dems have had for some time.

It’s going to be uphill. We have to have a short-term and a long-term strategy and the funding to implement both. They need to start cultivating strong candidates and a strong message and keep it simple. Apparently, too esoteric is too much for the average American. We can’t just run on ā€˜we’re not him’. We have to have a strong message that talks specifically about how what has been done and what will be done by this administration is bad for the American people and how it will get fixed under Democratic leadership.

There are many independents and moderates that don’t feel the Dems are credible. That’s where we start. Stop trying to convert the Trumpers, because they aren’t coming. The Independents and moderates are looking for a way out of this mess that, admittedly, some of them put the country into. The Dems need to have a clear message that shines the light on the path out of this morass.

Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out. And thanks for all your puritanical help in the last election.

Obama fired Howard Dean and hired Tim Kaine: Dems lose House.

Obama hired Debbe Wasserman-Schulz: Dems lose Senate

Debbe Wasserman-Schulz resigns in disgrace, replaced by Clinton lackey Donna Brazille: Dems lose Presidency and Supreme Court Justice

Obama and the Clintons panic at having a real Progressive as DNC Chair. Ask corporatist Perez to run.

Perez wins: Dems now permanent minority party. Supreme Court lost for a generation and House lost for another 10 years at least. Possibility of 60+ vote filibuster-proof Republican majority in Senate in 2018.

We are so fucked. Thanks Obama. Thanks Hillary. Losers.

Looks like the democrats have no intention of winning anything back this year or during the midterms with the election of the status quo nominee.

People like Trump get elected in order to break things so much, the system has to be rebuilt from scratch. It’s a shame the democrats would rather cling to their old system, than join the new world. Here’s to the liberal wing starting their open revolt against the Democratic party since they didn’t learn their lesson about moderation and hand wringing during the presidential election.

And that makes me so mad that he/they spend energy fighting the dems instead of the Repubs. smh. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your petulant face. :frowning:

Sanders pushed Dean out of the running for DNC chair.

Let’s make a friendly wager. I’ll bet $100 that absolutely none of that is true.

And there’s georgeh, right on cue, to deliver precisely what you are referring to.

Ah, the 9th year undergrad still living with mommy and daddy and wanting those of us who are employed full-time to pay his future grad school career is up from his nap.

Huh? Here’s the Senator’s response:

Naive is keeping the same people that ran the Democratic Party into the ground in charge, and expecting a different outcome.

Its the historical norm. The far left always views the party immediately to its right as the absolute evil, while ignoring or even working with, the far right.

Unfortunately over on Huff Post the Bernie Bros were already forming the circular firing squad even before the vote was started. I am guessing it will get worse now that Perez won.

This is such fucking bullshit. He’s status quo simply because he wasn’t backed by Sanders and because he was chosen to run the Civil Right’s division at Justice and later the Labor Department. At the time, the left was rejoicing that Obama had gone all in on a liberal. But when he supported Clinton, suddenly, magically, he became no longer a liberal. It’s bullshit.
