This crap ain’t gonna fly. San Francisco has already filed a pre-emptive lawsuit against what is clearly illegal. I fully expect other cities to sign on as well.
Moreover, by and large the bulk of the “sanctuary cities” are located in “donor states,” i.e. states that contribute more to the federal government than they receive. Should one of them, say New York or California — the sixth largest economy on the planet! — decide to retaliate by withholding federal payments, you’d see some mad scrambling in D.C.
If there is one thing Rethugliklans universally understand it’s the reality of the old joke “the check is in the mail.”
