McCollum told reporters on the Hill that she heard “this bill was in trouble because it didn’t go far enough in repealing the Endangered Species Act. It did not go [far] enough in eliminating the EPA totally, which many of their members, you can tell by the amendments that they offered, wanted.”
“So when the Parks Service prohibition of Confederate flags was added to the bill, then our understanding was that they heard from some of their extreme members within their caucus that they weren’t gong to help pass the bill unless they can have something out of it,” McCollum said. “Our understanding is that is why this amendment was offered.”

If Boehner was smart, he’d offer to placate the “extreme members” with a provision prohibiting ACORN from receiving contracts from the Dept. of the Interior.

Have to wonder what the reason would be to eliminate the EPA and the endangered species act. Do they want to start spraying DDT or agent orange all over again ?

@grawk: Hey, it was the GOP cause du jour; on another day it might have been the 853rd vote killing Obamacare. It just happens to be the thing the crazies have decided is their pet passion of the moment – a decision that will, with luck, prove decisively costly for the Republicans’ political prospects for the foreseeable future.
I can’t think of a clearer demonstration that not only does the GOP attract racists, but they work hard to appease them. Never again do we have to tolerate denial from them that they consciously cultivate racist hatred in their thirsty quest for power.
