I am sure that the DoJ will quickly assemble a task force to find these domestic terrorists. (If I were terminally snarky I would follow that up with"… and congratulate them.")
Or are they insurrectionists, since they’re threatening a government official?
Ever since Election Night, the MSM has been like a person who sobers up after being in some kind of drug haze for years and runs around “discovering” things that had been right there in front of his face all along.
Among them has been the recent realization that Fox isn’t really a news outlet like they are.
I agree with @ronbyers that it is too early to talk impeachment even though I also agree that DJT has done enough to warrant it. IMHO we are only going to get one shot at this. If a bill of impeachment is brought before the house and fails in the vote then this failure will be used against any further impeachment action even if new evidence would support it. Even worse is if the impeachment passes in the house it will surely fail in the Senate which requires 2/3 majority for removal from office. Thus we need to hold off on this until the evidence is so overwhelming that there will be enough public support for their to be a chance that the Senate will convict. Otherwise look what the impeachment/acquittal of WJC did for his popularity. This is why I supported Pilosi’s taking impeachment of W off the table. Keep in mind that impeachment is a political act, not a criminal justice act.
To this latter point, my poorly informed understanding is that an “impeachable offense” is anything that the House of Representatives says it is. If they so chose, they could declare that having an unnatural skin color and orange hair is an impeachable “misdemeanor” since the constitution doesn’t define the term. More likely, were Trump to shoot an undocumented emigrant on 5th avenue, they could decide that this isn’t impeachable because the President has the power to deport such persons without due process and that he merely deported him straight to hell.
You would be AMAZED how many “Americans” don’t know that anyone born in Puerto Rico is AN AMERICAN CITIZEN and able to travel freely to the rest of the USA.
Of course, just like residents of Washnington D.C. they have no VOTING representative in Congress and cannot vote in Presidential Elections (although they CAN vote in Primaries.)
Strictly speaking, impeachment cannot “fail” in the Senate. If the articles of impeachment are approved by the House, then the president has been successfully impeached. What can fail is the removal from office of the impeached individual.
You raise a valid point about not attempting impeachment of Trump too soon. In 1973–74, Rep./Fr. Robert Drinan of Massacusetts tried to get an impeachment of Nixon going based on his illegal bombing of Cambodia. House Majority Leader Tip O’Neill knew that such a bill, if brought to the floor of the House, would fail spectacularly, which would act as a deterrent to impeaching Nixon a second time, for his Watergate-related offenses. O’Neill convinced Drinan of the need to wait.
Well said. Only one bullet in that impeachment gun. We can wait. It is inevitable that Trump will do more & more outrageous stuff as time rolls on. “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes…” etc, etc.
Here’s a thought: Maybe people wouldn’t be so quick to automatically dismiss these Trumpettes as deplorable racist a-holes if their go-to response to a black person saying something they don’t like wasn’t “lynching.” Again, just a thought.
