Discussion for article #225627
At last there’s some indication Congress is aware that the VA has been burdened with 2,000,000 new Vets and that criticism of the VA for fumbling the care of 2,000,000 new patients may have been somewhat unfair. Yes, the VA was not upfront about there being insufficient staff and resources to meet demand, but that can speak to fear of Congress which had just finished sequestering a lot of federal budgets including the VA’s.
So thank you, Congress, for taking steps to increase the capacity of the VA to meet needs. We have lots of hoorahs about the volunteer Armed Forces, and support the troops!!! propaganda. But when they come home we have been forgetting them. That needs to stop. In Viet Nam days we also had a crunch of VA meeting demand, then in a climate of dissing the Vets. I was fortunate enough to have private employment with medical benefits and decided to stay out of the way of the guys who didn’t, at the VA.
