Discussion: Deadly Wildfires In Northern California Force Thousands To Evacuate

We were visiting friends for a harvest party cleaning out her garden this past weekend just north of Santa Rosa and left at about 5:45 PM Sunday. On our drive back to San Francisco, you could already see some smoke blowing in from Napa. We had gone out for a walk in the neighborhood Sunday afternoon and I was surprised how dry everything looked (my East Coast perspective). We have learned that our friend’s house and her whole street burned to the ground Sunday night or Monday morning. Fortunately, all our friends had left earlier Sunday and everyone else on the street seems to have escaped.

People will say again that this is not the time to talk about climate change. All I can say from the epicenter of the fire affected areas: if not now, when?
