Discussion: Deadly California Wildfires Continue To 'Get Worse Before It Gets Better'

@clare keep us posted as to what transpires for you.
There is one bright spot for though. My God son whom I am close to (30 yrs old) who had been suffering kidney disease and was on dialysis, got a new kidney yesterday. Lotta strong feelings going on for a lot of us lately,

On top of everything else cnn.com is reporting many of the marijuana farms that were getting into production in California in anticipation of recreational use have burned.

Sometimes life just ainā€™t fair.

What I read, I think on reuters, is that Brown is working with Trump and that FEMA has been helping out. I think disaster funds have already been earmarked. The fact that there are (and probably never will be) condolences from Trump is lousy and speaks to his (lack of) character, but Brown is smart to play it this way. Brown wants help for California and Trumpā€™s base would have a meltdown if Trump said anything sympathetic toward their Most Hated Enemy of Forever and Always.

So very true. We had an amazing dinner conversation tonight with our neighbors (and close friends), all of it centered on the swirling mix of emotions that arise when you all realize there is a 50/50 chance of losing the homes weā€™ve lived in for decades ā€¦all contingent on which way the wind might blow tomorrow. I have not commented here for days because my full attention has been on packing up precious belongings, paying close attention to the nixle report that will supposedly warn me when I must evacuate my hill before fire overtakes it. It is a strange limbo. Not sure what the takeaway is. Surely not wisdom and tolerance because I hate donnie more than ever. But, on the other hand, I am sincerely happy to hear your news. Fantastic, lovely, and amazing. All good wishes to you and to your godson. May that kidney serve him well for the rest of a long and happy life. Thank you so much for sharing that.

If not for the catastrophe, Iā€™d take the lack of verbal vomit as a positive good.

I lived in California for 11 years, and Iā€™m feeling gutted.

Not well reported - the Current Occupant has just turned the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency over to a guy who wants to PRIVATIZE WEATHER REPORTS!

Hurricane reports! Tornado reports! $100/mo! Buy now, or no help.

ā€œWe cannot allow good governance to interfere with productive revenue streams. Thatā€™s communism.ā€

We have been in our house for 37 years. Losing it in a fire would be something thatā€™s hard to conceive.
Hang in there!!

It would be interesting to know if Gov. Brown has worked successfully with FEMA (and, dare I say, Trump?) relating to this disaster. Brown is quite a masterful politician these days, so if anyone could pull this off successfully, it would be him. That said, Iā€™m surprised that Napa/Sonoma havenā€™t been declared a National Disaster Area, for example.

And, hearing no words from Trump is the preferred outcome. He would just make anything he said end up pointing back to himself, and that would be a huge disservice both to the victims of this disaster and the people who are making remarkable efforts to fight it.

Thatā€™s what he says. I think the exact quote from Brown was that Trump has been very helpful.

Thatā€™s California for you though. Only our problems make headlines. You rarely see any of the good things that happen in California in the news.
