Discussion: De Blasio: It's 'Incredibly Insensitive' For Trump To Say Shooting Someone Wouldn't Lose Him Votes

Discussion for article #245018

The Mayor is right, but who can be surprised? An attention junkie like Trump needs his fix. At first his habit of dumping whatever effluvia is in his mind was shocking, but over the last months we have gotten used to it and so it does not pack the same wallop any more. So to keep the juices flowing, like a drug addict he has to up the dose in order to get the same kick — in the months to come what new highs, or lows, will he achieve?

I would tune him out if I could. Lots of luck with that.

Of course it’s insensitive but it shows that trump’s base is as intelligent as a box of hammers. And dangerous because he can tell them how to behave and they’ll do what he says.

I hate it when libs talk like that.

Now if he wanted to lose votes, he would apologize for being a flaming asshole.

Calling a Trump comment “insensitive” is like saying a ‘bull in a china shop’ is assertive.

It’s been shown that cattle run thru shelves of china avoid damaging that china even when running between the shelves. See the Mythbusters take on it.

Its way beyond insensitive. It is absolutely not something someone running for president should be saying or thinking. It’s outrageous

I still wanna see trump get slapped in public (verbally that is) to where he has no comeback.

I wouldn’t have passed up the opportunity to call it “disgusting”.

Whining about “insensitivity” makes Democrats and progressives sound like old schoolmarms who’ve lost control of an unruly Sunday School class. It’s weak, spineless language that moves nobody.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Sunday that for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to say shooting someone wouldn’t lose him votes was “narcissistic lunacy.”

That’s got some teeth in it.

But this is about PC culture and so on. Really, it is ironic that Trump is outright calling his backers gullible idiots. He is right but it is not a good thing.

Thanks for this. I will think better of cows in the future. Also if you slowly heat up water a frog will eventually jump out. The metaphor that claims they don’t drives the journalist James Fallows crazy every time he sees it.

unbridled arrogance is not the same thing as ‘insensitive’

Republicans condone murder.

I think I’m okay with it being physical too.

And he could care less about being scolded this way. Rubio, who’s a nastily clever little fellow, got it right way back in the beginning by treating him as a negligible, unimportant person. That’s what Trump doesn’t like—contemptuous disregard. That’s tricky for his GOP rivals but Democrats can say whatever they feel like. Obama showed everyone how but I guess most people don’t have his skills and insight.

Well, the point here is that Trump’s comment gets two and a half Pinocchio units, isn’t it? Because hey, if he murdered an attractive young white woman who wasn’t asking for it by being a slutty slut he’d totally lose some votes. Unless it was a tragic gun-cleaning accident, of course.

Maybe something like this could have worked:

I’m staying out of it, although you’d think Trump’s own supporters would take offense. I mean, he’s calling them lemmings who will do whatever he says and love him no matter what he does. You would think they’d be insulted by that. I know I would be, but … I’m not one his supporters.
