Apparently her views on LGBT rights moderated after her brother turned out to be gay - as if it’s some badge of honor to become accepting only when it directly affects someone with whom you have a close family relationship.
Alas, she speaks for most yahoos in this country. Let’s not forget that. Our local suburban daily has letters calling those kids commies. I was called a commie because I warned about the sell-off of federal lands.

I love that Hogg is kicking her bully ass right where it hurts. These kids have a special license after what they have experienced. Plus, they don’t have to tread as carefully as someone who has to keep a job.
I’m going out on a limb here but I honestly think these kids know what they’re dealing with when they’re attacked and disparaged this way. I very, very much doubt he’s actually voicing a belief that one day she might become objective and when that happens he’ll go on the show. I don’t hear a lot of naiveté from these kids. Just guessing but I think he’s using his own prominence to implicitly call her a damn propagandist whose only metric is where you fall on the political spectrum.

Read that. All you can do is shake your head. If every planet in the galaxy had intelligent life the human capacity for callousness and cruelty would probably remain unique and shocking. I’m not sure empathy is the right tool to understand that kind of person.
Right you are. This needed doing. We sometimes get lost in the weeds but these kids don’t. They see the problem and are doing something about it. The RW smear machine is being taken down, slowly and in full public view by a bunch of traumatized teenagers. It does the heart good.

I think his response has been measured, passionate, and appropriate. People have died. Some were his friends. No, if anything I think he and the other students are showing great restraint.

The kids are just being functional human beings. The wingnuts are sitting in the sandbox, throwing tantrums, and wondering why nobody wants to play along with them anymore.

They’ve also learned something important about bullies, maybe it’s because being still in school, bullying is a daily reality, and especially since they survived a penultimate act of bullying. And that is, you never shrink from a bully, you must confront and oppose their every act and utterance with calm, adamant resolve, you must seek to methodically embarrass and expose the bully’s cowardice and hypocrisy at every opportunity, and above all, once you land a blow, never ever EVER stop hitting them until they either beg for mercy, or are utterly destroyed.
I can think of 16 Republicans who 2 years ago failed on all these counts.
