Discussion: David Axelrod: 'There Hasn't Been A Major Scandal' Under Obama

I wonder what Axlrod’s definition of “major scandal” is.

Major scandals

  • Failure to indict Bush/Cheney for war crimes
  • Bailout of banks but not the People
  • Failure to even try to move Overton Window to the left in the strange notion that Republicans were interested in compromise (although there’s some hope here, post 2014 election)
  • Dropping pick-up basketball for golf - this is the worst!

Netanyahu’s upcoming speech to Congress is shaping up to be a major scandal, just not one sticking to Obama.

It was an agency waiting for a scandal to erupt. Too much mismanagement and neglect for too many years, and a terrible growth in numbers of wounded veterans thanks to dumbya and his administration who planned for nothing particularly not veterans.

That was my thought, Darr. Is scandal sexual misbehavior, personal financial gain on the part of someone high up, is it drunkenness or drug use on the job? The classic definition of scandal has not been met by this administration, and no one thought it would. Fox may declare scandals, but it doesn’t make it so…

The late Mario Cuomo once said that a candidate campaigns in poetry and governs in prose. You get the idea. Present soaring ideas, then get down to earth with, in this president’s case, an intransigent House, a reluctant Senate, the resurrection of open and disgraceful racism and a fake broadcast network making it up as it went along, and high expectations based on the earlier poetry.

Come on, you have to admit that President Obama will never ‘leave his mark’ through good governance, expanding social programs, pulling the country out of the Great Recession, ending two wars, and all with an intrasigent Congress for most of the time. If he wants to bring his personal fortune into the 9-digit range, he’ll have to start imitating the corporate leaders, or at least four out of the last five Republican Presidents.[quote=“littlegirlblue, post:46, topic:16897”]

In President Obama’s case, coming down to earth meant draining the largest administrative cesspit in our country’s modern history after it was intentionally deconstructed by Bush and Co.

So, “worse” is no longer a synonym for “blacker”?

Yep, if there aren’t any real scandals, just manufacture a few.

Gotta give 'em credit, they’re masters at it. And for the the dopes who think Fox peddles gospel, it’s veritas.

He will leave his mark but it won’t be visible or appreciated for some time to come. He’s shaping his legacy under our noses, and it will include honor and decency and his climb from a mixed race kid in Hawaii to Leader of The Free World, proving anyone can dream.

Too many discussion windows open, maybe…

Too dry for the room.

Its been pretty sweet.

Early on in the 2008 primaries I supported John Edwards. I’m glad that I moved over to Obama - purely because he was out populisting Edwards’ populist campaign.

Edwards really turned out pretty smarmy and I didn’t see it until it all spilled out later.

Now he’s just trolling Republicans.

Fox makes its own news and then reports that “there were reports of news” thereby justifying their original BS. Then they keep reporting the “news” until it gains traction. As an example look how long they have harped on the IRS. Or Benghazi.

Over the weekend there was a SNL 40th anniversary show with all the alumni including Jane Curtin who along with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were on the Weekend Update (their version of the news) and Curtin said this.

I used to be the only pretty blond woman reading the fake news,” Ms. Curtin said. As the Fox News logo appeared, she added, “Now there is a whole network devoted to that.

That’s the whole truth.

What is this “Free World” you speak of?

And if you doubt that, you are an Obama hating wingnut that isn’t interested in the truth in the first place.
The fact that President Obama has been forced to out troll the trolls is a scandal in and of itself but I’m not really sure against whom.

The Leader of The Free World is a colloquialism which arose after WWII to describe either the US or the president of the US and it implied its super powers. But it’s not used seriously by anyone, just when I’m trying to go over the top in praising BHO.
