Discussion: CT Dems May Approach Judge To Exend Voting Hours After Delays

Discussion for article #229705

Voter fraud! Voter fraud!

But seriously, I saw on the weather this morning that Maine got a foot of snow last night, that’ll slow things down there too.

EDIT: I just read the article and I see the GOP is already concerned and have their lawyers lined up.

Sheesh, I knew they’d be paranoid, but really?

I think it’s time we get serious about reform in this country, but it won’t happen so long as the Koch Brothers have money to burn so that they can turn the US into a serf economy.

The Voter ID Law in Texas is going to cause issues too.
I was first in line-- and the clerk hadn’t gone through her paces with anyone else yet-- which made my ‘check-in’ likely much longer.
Though if the process lengthens every check-in by 15-30 seconds?
That’s alot of people standing around waiting to vote-- ever-longer-- as the day goes on.

F^cking ÂŽs.

Here in Dallas, probably Wendy Davis’s strongest area outside of Austin, we are getting some pretty impressive rainfall today, 2-3 inches. That will depress voter turnout as well. On the plus side, it will hopefully reinvigorate our lakes and water table. We need the rain badly. Just would have been better tomorrow.

My wife’s voter registration didn’t match her ID (the ol’ put the maiden name as middle name trick the Rs in Texas have been pulling this season). But we were on the watch for it, so as soon as we got our new cards and noticed it in Sept we immediately got in touch with the D party who walked us through how to fix it. Which took several hours of our time to fix. Now imagine if you didn’t know these dirty tricks were being played. If we hadn’t caught it my wife would not have been able to vote. That law has got to go.

If voting is meant to be the backbone of a constitution democracy, why is only one party trying to make sure everyone gets a chance to vote? (Duh!) It seems to me that all political parties would at least pretend to be concerned when man-made problems and delays threaten to keep interested voters from performing their civic duty. Why do Democrats have to avail themselves of legal remedies to make this happen?

I know. I know. Consider this a rhetorical comment.

All i can figure is, this will be another fake scalp to tuck under their belt in their effort to prove voter fraud is real. Even though it isn’t.

The only comfort I take in that is that it only affects married women, who vote predominantly Republican. And that means I think there is a good chance it will get fixed. But that doesn’t help what’s going on with this particular election.

Blame the Supreme Court – they’re the ones who refused to allow those requirements to be set aside until after the challenge to them runs its course.

Coincidently, there is a CT constitutional ballot measure that is being voted on today regarding expanded voting rights.

“…The Constitutional question will now appear on the ballot for voters to ratify in Nov. 2014 election. The language will be as such: “Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to remove restrictions concerning absentee ballots and to permit a person to vote without appearing at a polling place on the day of an election?”
Officials said that these types of early voting could be in the form of in-person early voting, no excuse absentee ballots, or mail-in voting.” snip

GOP would probably take the lead in fighting global warming if liberal groups started circulating analyses showing that it would increase Dem voter turnout in the northeast and in the midwestern urban areas.
