Discussion: Cruz: Any Candidate Unwilling To Repeal Obamacare 'Should Step Aside'

Discussion for article #237866

As a partisan Dem that wants to see as big of an electoral victory as possible in 2016, I wholeheartedly agree.

Please proceed, Senator.

ā€œI have made repeal of this disastrous law a top priority since the first day I arrived in the Senate and have made its repeal central to my campaign," Cruz said in a statement.
ā€œAny candidate not willing to do the sameā€”and campaign on it every dayā€”should step aside,ā€

ā€¦and watch the clue bus run over Cruz and the rest of the repealers without even slowing down.

Cruz could be run over by a formation of clue buses, and he still wouldnā€™t get any.

Our country was built on the freedom to die sick and broke. It is one of the things that set us apart from those socialist police states like Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.!!!11111oNe11!!

Hereā€™s what I donā€™t understand (amongst many things)ā€¦ isnā€™t ā€œStateā€ also another term for the country itself? John Kerry is Secretary of State. Which state? And which state does the State Department refer to?

If the SCOTUS voted against Obamacare on this, it would open a Pandoraā€™s box of people looking for typos to invalidate laws they donā€™t like. If I was buying a house, and in 20 places listed the price as $250,000, and in one place listed it as $150,000, does that mean I get the house for $150,000? Why is that one line more important than the other lines in the document?

Iā€™m not a lawyer, but the whole thing seemed crazy.

Iā€™m just disappointed that Ted didnā€™t fantasize about having Obamacare shoved down his throat or up his butt.

Considering that a fairly large majority of people donā€™t want ACA repealed, please proceed with your quest against it. It will be a very stark difference between the candidates, so thanks for that.

Perhaps this reading that the whole country is also ā€œthe stateā€ will tame the overgrown federalism of the United States. Why would a married couple moving from California to Texas (poor them) be able to become ā€œunmarriedā€ again? Why do 50 states issue license plates and driverā€™s licenses? Wouldnā€™t it be easier to have one national database? When my dentist wife and I moved from Minnesota to Wisconsin, she had to pass another exam (to the tune of $2500) to be able to practice.
The reasonable example here is again - you guessed it - Germany. Ok, it has only 16 ā€œBundeslƤnderā€, so this may be a bit more manageable.

Agreed. It seems to me that if the subsidies were struck down, any state or federal law could be ruled invalid based on a typo or somewhat ambiguous language in a statute. Anyone convicted of those crimes could potentially have their sentence vacated. That could lead to utter chaos.

ā€œThese robed Houdinis transmogrified a ā€˜federal exchangeā€™ into an exchange ā€˜established by the State,'ā€ Cruz added.

Iā€™ll see your ā€œtransmogrifiedā€ and raise you one ā€œtransmuted,ā€ a ā€œmetamorphosedā€ and two "transubstantiated"s.
