Discussion: Criminal Charges Dismissed In 2014 Bundy Ranch Standoff Case

Tommy Chong served 9 months for selling bongs, essentially a political prisoner.

What is the opposite of a political prisoner? Someone who is basically walking around free despite committing a crime because of the politics surrounding the crime.

Another massive failure by the Obama Dept. of Justice.

only if they were caught selling “loosies” like Eric Garner.

And if the Bundys and their cohorts had been anything other than white…

They’d have been cold in theirs graves for 4 years now.

Well the black guy was black after all. I mean we can’t have black people getting away alive after doing minor things while wholesome 'Murican white people are stealing grazing rights from the federal government and pointing guns at people while occupying a federal property. You’re right about not all comparisons being valid: In the eyes of the crazies on the right the black man selling cigarettes is definitely the villain here. Poor Cliven Bundy was just standing up for his rights.

It ain’t right. It just ain’t right. If the men had been black…

The prosecutors who botched this by engaging in flagrant misconduct should be fired – and disbarred.

But since their incompetence/malfeasance ended up serving the purposes of an important part of the Trumpublican base – gun fondling rural right-wing extremists – their jobs are probably safe, at least for now.

I cannot imagine why someone selling cigarettes was even worth the time of the police.

If you’re white and right-wing, it’s apparently totally OK to brandish weapons and threaten federal officers. If the Bundys were non-white, they’d be corpses.

This should have been the easiest fucking prosecution in the history of mankind, but the gov’t somehow managed to screw it up. Expect the next skirmish in the Sagebrush Rebellion to turn hot and for federal officers to be killed.

I think you’re right. Bundy is stupendously dumb, he’ll screw up something else.

The problem is the guy selling loose cigarettes didn’t have a bunch of his heavily armed (while black) friends show up to support him. If that would have happened, I’m sure it would have turned out differently.

You’re right, I mean all the prosecutors really had to do was show the videos of these yahoos doing these things in front of the world. We watched them do it, yet they walk. Amazing. Of course we so often watch white police officers shoot unarmed black men and women and they walk too, so I should realize where I am.

Definitely, then they would have called it a “race riot” and used that as an excuse to kill even more.

Because of the content of his character?

I think this might rise to the level of Olympic Fucktardary.

When did the prosecutorial misconduct that sabotaged the case occur?

EDIT: I checked, and the trial began in October – the mistrial resulted from repeated instances of the prosecution failing to turn over evidence to the defense.

The lead prosecutor, Steven Myhre, was appointed as acting U.S. Attorney by Sessions.

Which raises an obvious question: Did the Trump DOJ tank this one purposely?

The apparent incompetence of both the prosecution and this judge has now given license to armed insurrection against Federal authority. This may effectively shred the Constitution and our place as a “Nation of Laws.”

What’s up next for Bundy? I’m guessing a run for office, the house or senate. It’s how they roll. They always get rewarded.

Why, now we can all point assault rifles at Federal agents with no consequences, right? I think especially if your black or Hispanic, right?

At least they got to keep their dildos.
