So very very common…
In 1984 when I lived in New Orleans almost all the White people thought Ronald Reagan was really shafting them. Almost all the White people also supported Ronald Reagan. The reason they were supporting Reagan in spite of the fact that they knew he was shafting them is that “he is shafting Black people worse.” Only they never used the word “Black people”.
I mean it is no surprise to me that in GOP states people are willing to pay more to deny their fellow citizens, (and in many cases even themselves as over half of all people benefiting, or being denied benefiting, from Obamacare are Whites with a high school diploma or less living disproportionally in the South) health care.
It did me in 2003… and I have still not fully recovered, more than likely never will… and I HAD a supposed Platinum HC Policy that still cost $20,000 per month out of pocket…
Guilty of it myself quite a lot but that’s on something that affects me not huge groups of people dealing with life and death issue!
there goes those republicons being fiscally responsible again…hahahahhahaha
The South shall cough again…
There’s no irony here, cosmic or otherwise.
This is the only logical outcome of the actions by those conservative state legislatures.
Unfortunately, of the remaining states, the ones where it’s least likely to happen in the Deep South are also those with the most restrictive existing conditions. In Texas and Alabama, for instance, you can only qualify for Medicaid as the parent of a child if you make less than 17% of the poverty level, which basically means less than what you would make panhandling on the street. A childless person can’t qualify at all.
TX has historically cut off its’ nose to spite its’ face and continues to do so. While Bush was Governor, the state refused to match the maximum available for CHIPS and ended up with a good many of those children ending up on Medicaid, which had lower matching rates. Their ideology blinds them and then they are stupid to boot.
YUP.GOP are a bunch of assholes and this here is what you call KARMA.
Faux: By paying more, which increases our local taxes, we are really creating small government. Conservative math is special.
What you’re saying is so true. I work in a substance abuse non-profit, with an overwhelmingly indigent population, and I distinctly remember one of our clients who repeatedly went to the ER because of complications from congenital heart failure, a byproduct of her crack addiction. Within those few visits, she racked up a bill upwards of $10,000, which is a cost that would never be paid 1.) because she didn’t have the financial means, and 2.) because her addiction took hold once more, and she disappeared from our program.
That was around 2011, and Indiana’s governor, Mike Pence, finally pulled his pointed head out of his ass, and allowed Medicaid expansion through an alternative program, our Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). Since this has taken effect, SO MANY of our clients are now getting coverage, when they couldn’t get it before. They no longer have to wait until their health is at a breaking point before finally going to the ER for care.
While I’m a fan of single-payer system first and foremost, and despite it’s imperfection, Obamacare has truly been a godsend for so many. It astounds me that narrow-minded lawmakers still intend to stand in its way.

and are not punished for it at the polls.
Is it an ignorant-racist premium or an ignorant-racist tax? Perhaps SCOTUS should take up the issue.
Go back and look at the plans proposed by Dole/Chaffee and HHS Louis Sullivan from the G.H.W. Bush administration. They are pretty much as you have described.
Lee Atwater’s maxim in practice.
