Discussion for article #238636
Itās precious that we are now privy to her irrelevant traffic history. Letās treat the perpetrator the same way, now.
I must note that this video, pretty damning on its own, seems to have been edited, presumably to make the police officer look better. See here I have to wonder what was so bad that THIS video makes the officer look good in comparison.
And note, once again, that the police officer tries to intimidate the by stander into turning off his camera.
Oh, the dash cam video is a complete mess. Its so heavily, and badly, edited its doubtful its even usable as evidence now.
Which makes me circle back to Seattle PD requiring that their body cam be editable, and first putting on a contest to find the best methods to do so, before they would accept them. Arguments were made that its to protect the people they are policingā¦and thatās an incredibly small fig leave. Its so they can fix things up better than this one.
This is the a classic example of driving while black.
Iām a 40 something white professional and Iāve never been pulled over for failing to signal a lane change.
Itās a probably cause stop of a black person to see āwhat sheās up tooā. She had every right to be pissed because she knew what he was doing.
She wasnāt doing anything so he was giving her a warning to justify the stop. He thinks heās being a good guy; she thinks heās harassing me because Iām black.
It then escalated into ācontempt of copā. That officer had no authority to ask her to put her cigarette out and he knows it.
No justice, no peace.
Am I the only one who wonders about the reason for his moving the arrest off camera? I mean he knows that his dash cam is filming, he knows where it is filming, so is there any legitimate reason for him to move Bland such that much of the arrest takes place off camera or is it pretty much just his not wanting film of the arrest?
Once heās handed her the written warning, the official part of the interaction is over, as far as I understand it. Everything after that appears to have happened because the officer decided to escalate the situation.
I am a white guy too, and I have been pulled over FOR signalling a lane changeā¦because the cop was weaving in and out of lanes behind me without signalling, so when I signaled and then changed lanes, he took it to mean I was cutting him off. Berated me for about 5 minutes, but didnāt issue a citation. Or, thankfully, drag me out of my car, beat the crap out of me and then strangle me later in a holding cell. So I guess I should feel good about that.
I think the reason is pretty self evident. He knew how he was going to handle her as soon as he dragged her from the carā¦and he certainly didnāt want a tape of that in existence he would have to answer for later. Thatās part of why they got so pissed about the guy video taping THIS video. He only catches the tail end of it, but its still pretty damning. Combined with the sliced up dash cam, I think there is very little doubt that this was an unlawful arrest, and the cops knew it.
Yes there are, but you are fooling yourself if you donāt think its not like āCopsā in the police station every time, and if they prosecutor thinks they can embarrass/harass a suspect into pleading, they will use the unedited versions to the fullest.
So the only reason left is to cover up the tracks of police officers, and the occasional covering up for a Power That Be that gets caught with a dead girl or live little boy.
Iām 58 years old and white, and never once in my life have I been pulled over for failing to signal a lane change. This incident was bullshit from the moment it started.
Pain compliance is NOT what Tasers are supposed to be used for.
Do what I say or Iāll run 50,000 volts through you.
And she legally was not obligated to get out her car.
BTW, why is a state trooper working the streets of a city? That seems very odd. Does Hempstead not have itās own police force?
Iāve lived in IL and MO and it is not the practice of the state police in either state to police the streets of cities with or without their own force.
Somehow, despite you referring to it in your comment, I completely missed that second video when reading the article and only watched the dash cam, but yeah that was pretty much what I figured was the case.
Reason for arrest? āUppity lady didnāt respect my authoratie!ā
āA personās attitude or their demeanor is not probable cause to make an arrest,ā said Herron.ĀØ
Someone should inform the police about this.
Or Hispanic, in many places. Or if youāre a white youth in a shitty car. Cops like to pick on people they perceive lack political power, it seems to me.
Itās not who votes that counts, itās who counts the votes.
Police are terrorists. They try very hard to terrorize the minority communities they āserveā, using force to gain their ārespectā. This was obviously a case where the cop was pissed off because the lady had zero respect for him, so he decided to make an example of her. Once she was in jail it is highly probable that sex became the primary interest of the jailers, and when she, again, showed no respect for the perpetrators, they made another example of her. Until we treat the police as terrorists, nothing will change.
No one will serve even a day in jail over this incident. Police are experts at covering up crimes they commit.
