Discussion: Cook Political Report Predicts Dems Will Win Up To Seven Senate Seats

That is an absolute must!

In the macro this is great news but it’s a real shame that Chuck Grassley is very likely to coast to re-election while continuing to ignore his duty to hold hearings for a Supreme Court nominee. Until Hillary wins, that is, and then he’ll reveal to us that although Presidents don’t get a nomimee in their last year, the last two months of that year don’t really count as that year, or something equally fatuous. I donated to Judge, but the polls aren’t looking good for her. Iowa is shamed by Grassley’s asinine hypocrisy. At least whatever BS he shovels for the next 6 years will be from minority.

Well, even with this dire outlook for the future of the GOP in the Senate…expect the media whores to make lemonade out of this lemon and say…

“this is still great news for John McCain”.
Seriously. John McCain is not on Cook’s list, even with a seven seat gain. Go figure that one.

And the answer to that is “no.” Reid is retiring. Chuck Schumer will be taking over.

I have now gone from having no hope of taking back the House to being scared we won’t take back the House. I can’t say that I’m finding the added suspense enjoyable.

I think I read that the house and senate have never switched parties in the same election. This is a weird election to be sure, tho.

Agreed. They’re going to do everything they can to confirm Garland. I think the move for Democrats is to simply filibuster any attempts to do so. It’s a pretty easy argument to make. Hillary Clinton is the president elect and should have the right to pick her own SCOTUS nominee. Republicans said we couldn’t let an outgoing president nominate a SCOTUS justice in their last year. Well, if that was the case back in February then it’s definitely the case now. What changed?

Yep. The bigger the Dem victory, the more calls for “bi-partisanship”.

Too late. Already did

Definitely. If Dems do take both the House and Senate then they really need to hit the ground running and start ramming legislation through from day one. I don’t think anyone knew how dire the circumstances were going to be in 2010, or else I think they would’ve tried to do more. They won’t be abused of that notion this time.

I am of the opinion that McTurtle and friends will try to rush the current nominee through the process after the election. If for no other reason than the expectation Hillary will nominate someone more liberal.
But then again, my opinion is worth nothing (or so my wife says)

Yeah, Yeah … BUT THESE ARE NOT THE MOMENTS TO BE MOON-WALKING IN THE END ZONE!

14 days of all out shear fury must be unleashed - every last morsel of Rancid Republican disingenuous posturing must be laid out in the light of day - the endless duplicity - the ‘Oh I deplore Trump - but pardon me while I pucker up to kiss his tush’ - the “Oh I’m one of the ‘good’ ones - I’m ‘reasonable’ - but then they fall in step time after time on all kinds of insidious operational crap that screw the average citizen”

Day after day for the next two weeks - open up - not just cans - but …railroad Tanker cars of 'Whoop-Ass"
on Trump and all of the Republican drones who deserve every ounce of it!

@austin_dave

How does that work? Do Obama’s nominees stay nominated or does the new Madame President have to trigger some mechanism for them to be re-nominated? This would be great!!

1948, 1994, 2006 midterms. If it’s happened in a presidential year, I don’t recall it.

Two things. First, Obama will actually be a lame duck after November 8 so now the GOP argument will at least be built on a valid premise. Second, the GOP majority in the Senate will also be lame duck after November 8 and they are legitimately concerned about the consequences.

Logic would dictate that if you accept the GOP argument then neither the lame duck President nor the lame duck Senate should act on the Garland nomination, but logic and the GOP are mortal enemies.

It would be sweet to see Ayotte defeated, she has been fooling voters into thinking she’s a moderate while in reality she is always with the GOP on filibusters.

Also Rubio who is a hypocritical self serving weasel.

1948 was a presidential year. Truman over Dewey.
