That the likes of Conway make repeated media appearances on all major networks paying no price at all for lying endlessly is the end of our democracy.

Trump is but a symptom; this is the actual problem.

I never said it was new, but neither has it always been so.

This started in 1994 with the rise of Newt and the Southern Captivity of the Republican Party and has steadily gotten worse over time until we find ourselves with DJT in the White House.

What we see today is the logical extension of Rovism and Ari Fleischer. They were very happy to weaponize lying but were simply too conventional of politicians to take it to the extreme we see today. They had some shame; whereas Trump and his people do not. Trumpies saw what Rove et al did without consequence and simple took it to the next logical level.

And this will be the new normal for extreme ideological politics. I don’t believe the ideological extreme left will be immune from this cancer, either.

PS: But this only works because mainstream (as in non-fringe) media outlets let them do it;give them platforms and frequently don’t even correct them. Liars are invited back again and again.

So why didn’t Don Jr STFU? They’re desperately trying to defuse the matter by bringing it up and trivializing it. Judge painter, former Bush WH ethics lawyer, says flat out that it’s treason. A reputation for news-gathering is certainly critical, but the bills need to get paid too. And the news division has to pull its financial weight to keep the corporate shareholders happy.

The higher the ratings, the more CNN can charge for advertising. And “manufactured political drama,” however cheap and lame it is for political junkies, brings in ratings because it presents politics in a context that, while overly simplistic and even possibly inaccurate, is more captivating for the masses.

There is a reason why it’s called the “news business.”
