Her real problem is that Ann Coulter is sassier and funnier* than she is. Younger and blonder, too. Conway is smart enough to know her Trumpy Career is short term (hurry up Mueller!) and so she prepares ground for her future as an overpaid pundit. (Consulting/polling is too too much work, really.) Her material is really bad, whether written or improv, and she is failing fast. Nobody will cry for her.
I used to think Kellyanne was just waiting until Trump was impeached and Pence became president and ushered in the Christian nation era. I no longer credit her with debasing herself for some worthy ( in her eyes) endgame. I now think Kellyanne is a total narcissist, who loves getting her face on tv, and having reporters talk to her, and who is willing to say or do anything for attention.
Just on the basis of the screen-cap above (you donāt think Iām going to actually watch that shit, do you?!?), Iād say that KACās Botox ānā pancake regimen is turning her into a Westworld androidābut uglier.
Yes. Thatās the Carville/Matalin playbook: completely performative and cynical positioning as a two-party power couple, so they can survive both the Trump and post-Trump eras.
See above.
And, you know what? Itāll work. I guarantee sheāll have repositioned and found a way to worm back into the other three networks by 2022.
Though I take your point, the reality is that a substantial percentage of his voters were (a) low-information idiots, mostly white/elderly/uneducated, who believe the shit inside the 24/7 upside-downism of Fox News, and (b) entirely too many middle-class and educated white people who believed the 40-year character assassination campaign that assholes ran against Hillary.
There were obviously many factors. But obviously, as an optimist who thinks there might be a future to regard the present as the past, I think historians are going to wonder why any single person among your middle-class educated contingent thought this person would be anything but a disaster. Obviously we thought so at the time. But the Hillary part is well known since she first appeared on the scene decades ago. However I think the historians will find it a challenge, surmounted only by the best, to understand how an otherwise sensible person could have shrugged and voted for Donald J. Trump.
At this point it seems quite unnecessary to report anything Conway says. Itās not as if she provides any information, has any influence with Trump or can be expected to speak the truth. Her comments all seem to be what she considers to be clever slaps at Democrats. Sheās become quite irrelevant.
Iām not debating the reasons. Iām saying I think this one thing will be hard to understand in the future because our attitudes will be colored so indelibly by what came after. Lingering sexism in more tradition-bound communities will not puzzle the historians, I donāt think.
Agreed. A demagogue doesnāt actually have to be very smartājust needs to possess that weird combination of manipulative instincts and rhetorical moves which will sway otherwise-seemingly-rational people.
Yes. But, if the last three years have taught us anything, itās also that Trump does have the above weird, sociopathic, demagogic mojo.
