Discussion: Conservatives, WSJ Blast Bannon For Roy Moore Loss: ‘DUMP Steve Bannon’

While it’s great to see the conservatives eating their own, and I’m glad that child molestation is a bridge too far even in deeply conservative Alabama, I just wish Roy Moore’s open racism, misogyny, homophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and open disdain for the constitution and rule of law (did I miss anything?) were already a bridge too far.

Shhhhh! Don’t let on that Bannon is a double agent for the Democrats. But we could use some help paying for the three quarts of gin every day.

I sure hope you’re right. I keep thinking the tide is turning (all those first time democratic candidates elected this November!) and then something awful happens (a child molester, with the blessing of the POTUS and the GOP, is almost elected US Senator) and something wonderful happens (the POS losses!) and then…

I have political PTSD at this point. I keep wanting to hid under the bed.

The evidence of a wave election—bigger than the 2010 wave—is everywhere you look.

Unless the POS POTUS starts WWIII.

Yes, I’m THAT traumatized. Intellectual History major here. I have actually read Mein Kampf. Orange Hitler, incompetent loser that he is, still gives me nightmares. Sigh…Time to stock up on herbal tea.

The Republican version of the classic circular firing squad. I see that Sean Hannity blames MicConnell for the loss in Alabama. Maybe the entire Republican party is to blame.

The best we can hope for is they keep him. Trump / Bannon have pulled back the curtain on the GOP. Last night was a consequence of that. I live south of Alabama but not that far from it. Things are changing here and there. We just went through 8 years of an Obama administration that was supposed to end the world. 8 years of the Anti-Christ at the helm. But we still have our guns. At least those that haven’t been shot yet do. None of us have faced a death panel or a Mexican rapist. Most of the Conservatives I know admit that Obama did OK with the economy. And everyone’s sick of the fucking wars killing our sons and daughters.

The Deep South is coming around. It won’t be quick and it won’t be profound but there will be some changes. Trump’s put it out there for all to see. Even for us dumbasses in Dixie. My GOP’er neighbors are starting to see the difference between what GOPer promises sound like and how they feel. So whatever goes down…" keep the lights on for us" and don’t ditch Bannon.

I fear the GOP will try to show that they have rejected the Moore/Trump ideology with a less virulent form. But as noted in this post, this Ugly American attitude has become deeply embedded in the DNA of the Republican party and will not easily be removed. They will still lie and deceive and fool some of the voters into voted against their own interested. As a great Republican said once, “you CAN fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people SOME of the time, but you CAN’T fool all the people all the time.” And eventually you will be seen for what you are.

You forgot evangelical nutjob creationist climate change denier waiting to be swooped up in the Rapture, which is due any day now. And then the world will end, so nothing else really matters as long as he has free reign to be an abusive dickhead until then.

I think that covers it.

Gawd, I hate those immoral evangelicals. Sick, sick hypocrites.

It is funny that it was (barely) the underage girl stuff that did in Moore. All of the other crazy stuff he has said and done before the creepy DA persona was revealed wasn’t an issue for the GOP.

If you declare yourself a Christian warrior who is going to save Christians from all the awful mistreatment they suffer, then you don’t need God to forgive your sins … the GOP voters will.

He’ll have to look for one since he looks like he lives in a car.

Wow. Great comment. Up here in MA, we have none of this perspective. It feels like parts of the south and the heartland have developed gangrene and the entire country is on life support because of it. I am so encouraged by your optimism!

Was Megan McCain’s tweet a nod to what the ‘Mooch’ said about Bannon and his contortionist abilities?

Folks, it is official. The Murdochian transformation of the Wall Street Journal into of the propaganda arm of the Republican party and the bullhorn of white christian supremacists is now complete.

one of the penultimate scenes

Would the Internet be a better place if I insisted there can only be 1 penultimate thing in any series, i.e., the second-to-last thing? Or should I keep that to myself?

Yes, I want to see Bannon’s grubby fingerprints staining every R election until we get the majority back.

On the plus side, the New York Times appears to have regrown its spine and is doing some really good investigative reporting again.

I was actually surprised the WSJ hung in there for as long as it did after Murdoch got his filthy hands on it.

I am now waiting for Rupert to kick the bucket. He’s due. And then we’ll see what direction his sons go. They did nuke Ailes. Should be interesting.

I would still put the feet of every Republican up for election for the next four years in a cement bucket with those of Roy Moore-- make them drag him around for years.
