Discussion for article #222785
Seems doubly indicting to conclude that he was sharp in the beginning as when he had dimentia.
That means the Ronney had alzheimers when he was first elected?
October 1984, 2nd Presidential debate, Ronald Reagan and Walter Mondale…Ronnie and the Pacific Coast Highway story, 'nuff said.

During an appearance on "Morning Joe," Craig Shirley, the author of two books about Reagan, pushed back after co-host Mika Brzezinski said that even White House insiders acknowledge that the late president "certainly suffered from the effects of age in office."
Shirley you jest.
“He was as sharp as the day he went in office”
I totally buy that - he wasn’t all that sharp when he went in office.
Reagan was sharp?
I believe the technical word for this is bull$hit.
Too many first-hand accounts contradict this.
He was nominally functional, could go through the motions, but thank heaven he didn’t have to exercise judgement on some major issue.
Imagine, for ex, a 9 11 during the closing days of St Ronnie’s term.
If dull was sharp back then, yes. Listless from start to finish all the while, trickling out.
Sharp as in out-of-tune, as in tone-deaf, yeah, I buy it.
That’s like saying Louie Gohmert is just as intelligent as he was when he graduated from the 3rd grade. Does Craig Shirley work for “The Daily Show” or something?
His son saw signs of it. Earlier, in her book, her daughter hinted at it, but later disavowed it when Reagan was officially diagnosed.
Pretty amazing these people constantly attempt to rewrite history despite mountains of evidence against them.
Craig Shirley is not a biographer. He’s a hagiographer.
It’s a wonder he has no anecdotes about Reagan curing the blind and the lame or turning water into wine, but maybe in his next volume.
And whatever happened to the effort to get St. Ronnie’s visage on Mt. Rushmore? Wouldn’t a cathedral be a more appropriate place for it?
That isn’t saying much. We suspected Raygun was senile when he was Governor of California.
I think there’s every indication this is 100% true. He was absolutely as inept, vacuous and vacant on day one…
Isn’t this the story of most Republican politicians?
Look at the chryon on the screen shot. That quip still lives today.
He was as dull the day he was elected as he was the day he left office.
“Oh, my, he’s gonzo, I thought. I have to go out on the lawn tonight and tell my countrymen that the president of the United States is a doddering space cadet.”
So…Did Leslie go on the air that night and blab this news? Why not, Leslie?
