The roof, the roof, the roofie’s en flambe. Whatever you do young women, don’t intern at AEI.
Oy!
“And feminists should be concerned that women are modifying their behavior on their girls nights out in order to protect themselves from some vague, improbable threat,” she added.
Kinda like walking around with a concealed weapon because you are afraid of being attacked?
There’s a reason Northern European cultures extending back centuries placed lids on their steins and flagons
Not because poisoning was statistically prevalent.
But because it was possible.
I’d never advise any of the women or girls in my sphere to drink from
a glass or cup they’ve left unattended in a public setting.
That’s simply ignorant.

I think this is a very good point. Based on the studies cited in the AEI piece, widespread use of roofies may well be an urban myth. You have to question the conservative group’s decision to choose it as a topic, though, given all the recent statements questioning the extent of date rape by its (male) political sympathizers.
Next, they will claim ‘some’ computer-generated women are self-raping after they self-roofie…
If I had a college age daughter I’d firstly advise her to take anything from a republican source with a large amount of skepticism. Date rape is real. To trivialize it does young women a disservice. The republican organization who made this video should be ashamed of themselves.
“But it’s time for a tough-minded “reality check,” she said.”
This would be doubly difficult for republicans since it is rather obvious that many republicans live in a self constructed, non-evidence based fantasy driven bubble.
Yanno, no one has tried to hijack a plane in a long, long time, so we should probably just stop doing security screenings altogether.
That statement is about as smart as what the lady in that video said. If no one’s getting roofied, it’s probably because of all the precautions being taken. To just pretend it can never happen is about as intelligent as letting people board planes without being screened.
I am personally acquainted with someone to whom this happened.
Shorter; there’s really no roofies, so it’s on you, ladies. The few young women I know are concerned with Gender issues, but not “in constant fear of roofies”. Pretty absurd from my perspective since I’m sure alcohol is a greater danger overall. However this just seems like they are swatting their own straw woman as a way to distract from real issues, and imply, or outright posit that getting raped is a woman’s fault. Rape apologists and their female collaborators. Deeply disgusting. Republican male sexual insecurity as pathology.
One has to wonder why conservatives are erring on the side of incautious, reckless behavior, especially in these days where “just 1 fraudulent vote” is worth disenfranchising thousands.
While alcohol is the prime culprit in date rape, there are several false and ridiculous statements here. Roofies are street available in certain areas, especially some colleges, so they are not necessarily “hard to get”. That’s like saying pot is hard to get on campus. Some of these drugs do “erase memory” and cause blackouts, contrary to snide statement. The UK study indicates a 2% “instance of deliberate spiking” and a 1% instance of voluntary or forced drug ingestion- nothing to disregard. Finally, these drugs are eliminated quickly, and many tests are never done in time, potentially lowering suspected positives.
They are Republicans.
The only thing I can think of is that the “Conservative” members of the American Enterprise Institute could only get laid by using “rooffies” and don’t want any women the wiser.
It’s the only thing that would explain this bizarre video.
> …deputy host Caroline Kitchens…
Seriously? What’s the name of their lead host…“Barbara Bedrooms?”
What is this even attempting to address? “Hey ladies, don’t be so worried about getting drugged and raped!”. “But you can totally still get too drunk or high and then get raped, of course!”. "
…and?..
Is this supposed to be some sort of paradigm shift in the way girls heading out to a party should conduct themselves? How is this even useful information other than a “Oh, ok, I should be slightly less worried about a specific date rape drug, but still just as worried about getting raped other ways. How enlightening!”.
Conservative outreach: nailing the square peg into the round hole.
I guess Emma should be more direct in her speeches to include Republican women.
And one more thing, girls: strangers really do have the best candy!
So don’t worry your pretty little heads or “live in constant fear.”
Just get in the car.
You’re welcome.
Oh, and be sure to circle back to us and report on your exciting adventures sampling re-wrapped confectionaries in vehicles with hand-written temporary tags – which 99 percent of their owners self-report were really stolen by scary black males.
WTF??? Did an onion link somehow get on the American enterprise institute’s web page?? How long until they claim they were hacked?
Also, this video cites a study that found that 2% of sexual assaults involving intoxication, of 1000 cases studied in the UK, were “potential drug facilitated sexual assault cases”. That’s 21 people. Even if as few as 1 or 2 of those cases were due to the victim unknowingly ingesting a ruffee-like substance spiked into a drink, you’d still be looking a significant enough number of cases in a given year. Significant enough to be a bit worried. And that’s only the cases that get reported - many don’t, and many may not get reported because the victim doesn’t have the full recollection of events.
Goddamnit, why am I even trying? This is conservatism thought-process at it’s finest.
