Discussion: Conservative 'Election Observers' May Be For Intimidating Dem Voters In Cochran-McDaniel Race

Discussion for article #224216

These pollwatchers won’t be observing.Dollars to doughnuts they will be using the only arrow left in their quiver.Misinformation and intimidation.I just worked the word quiver into my comment so early in the day.I think I need coffee.

Poll watchers from each party are standard part of the process in many districts.

The good old “Republican Voting is on Tuesday, Democratic voting is on Wednesday” gag.

Explain to me why Democrats would want to vote for Cochran? McDaniel is a much easier target for Childers in the general. I think all of this nonsense is part of McDaniel’s get out the vote effort. He want’s his racist supporters to think blacks are going to vote for Cochran. That should give some of those rednecks the vapors.

Childers isn’t going to win. Not gonna happen.*

So, people are trying to embrace the lesser evil, here.

*Note - There is a miniscule possibility that Cochran squeeks the Primary and the GOTantrumParty refuses to vote for him because “People let the libruls pick our next Senator!!!11!!” and Childers gets elected. But it’s about as unlikely as McDaniel not being a total shitheaded prick.

Childers has held state wide office, and his family is well known in Mississippi. You might be right, but I wouldn’t write him off just yet.

Almost wish we didn’t have mail-in voting in my state. I’d love to encounter one of these “election watchers”.

I’ve lived here for 14 years and I can recall one Democrat that won a significant statewide election and that’s the A.G.

I’ll be voting for Childers in the general election, but he’s still almost certainly going to lose.

The worry of the McDaniel campaign is that Cochran is busy reaching out to Dem voters to get them to cross over and vote for him. They think that because Cochran just recently engaged a campaign staffer who has a history of working in black, predominately Dem precincts.

And all the talk about Carnac or Kreskin is off base. Republican election observers can tell who is a Dem crossing over that won’t vote republican in the general simply by observing the person’s skin color.

See where this is headed now?

I don’t get it. Who are they tryng to intimidate in this context? Or is it just purely in support of the unending “election fraud” con?

I live in a heavily redneck county (Rankin, represent, dawg!) and I bet I fly under their radar. Melanin-challenged and all.

Maybe I can give a black power salute when I go to vote?

If ANYONE ever attempted to prevent me from voting, I would sue them, and the state and local government assigned to protect my voting rights, as well as try to have them arrested on the spot. This is outrageous!

Sounds to me like the McDaniels folks are trying very hard to trigger the Law of Unintended Consequences. Lately, attempts at voter suppression have been sufficiently well-publicized that they’re inclined to motivate (i.e., piss off) the very people you’re trying to keep away from the polls.

Ah, the RNLA - dodging the DNC v. RNC consent decree since 1987.

…seriously, though, if any Republican or nonpartisan attorneys care about protecting the right to vote, I suggest they book a flight to Mississippi ASAP.

this is very ironic.

Two weeks ago the reason McDaniels won was because of all us Democrats, apparently. Now the reason Cochran may win is because of all us Democrats, apparently.

What I can say is the reason either one will lose the general is because all us Democrats.

Just wear a Malcolm X t-shirt. That ought to be enough for some serious pearl clutching.

So now True the Vote are the New Black Panthers? Gotta love the tea party. Over the top comedy if nothing else.

Regardless of what the law says, I COULD say I intend to support the candidate. In November I could vote for anybody and nobody would know better. In addition, assuming I was ever asked, I COULD say that I intended to support the candidate but something he said/did prior to November changed my mind. It’s a stupid law that, obviously, cannot be enforced. Dumb! But then it is Mississippi so…
