Discussion: Conservative Civil Rights Vet Tapped To Head National Tea Party Group

My own personal take about Roy Innis, and mind you, this is only conjecture. I think Innis Sr. was driven by jealousy that he could never attain the kind of leadership accolades that others in the movement were able to garner. It was almost palpable when you watched video or looked at group photos of him in the mix. The level of distain was too hard for him to hide. Each individual organization made a contribution in it’s own way. As was the case with the leader of each one.

Some names fell off the lips easier and quicker but his was hardly one of them. So, I think the progression to his ultimate path was probably inevitable. I always refer back to the adage…what you put out, you get back.

Funny you should say that. It was actually MSNBC a few years ago that misspelled his name on the chyron in precisely that way:

Yeesh…glad at least that it clearly predates today’s (largely) progressive MSNBC, judging by the graphic design and the topic being “The Enron Mess” – but still…yeesh…

Definitely plausible. At that point he could have taken either of two paths, depending on what kind of guy he was: continuing with the good works and perhaps finding his own “territory” within the larger project, or…the path he chose. “What you put out,” indeed…

Face palming in progress.
