Discussion: Conservative Author Will Challenge Thom Tillis In 2020

It really doesn’t mean anything anymore, really. Well, I take that back. If it means anything it’s simply fealty to whichever Republican is in charge and/or whichever ideas are currently captivating the base. Also, racism, misogyny, homophobia, and fear of anything seen as the “other”. There are no longer any set of policies that can be ascribed as Conservative beyond those that fall into the categories mentioned above.

“A group of us have been encouraging Garland to run,” Carter Wrenn, a Republican consultant working for Tucker’s campaign, told the News and Observer.“

Carter Wrenn is an old Jesse Helms hand which says a lot about the primary challenge. He’ll dust off the old ugly playbook.

Tillis is vulnerable. Dems can take the EVs and the Senate seat, and re-elect Roy Cooper.

In 2018, GOP won total NC congressional vote by ~75000 out of > 3.6 million cast: 50.39% to 48,35%. And turnout was only 49.6% of eligible voters, compared to 64.9% in 2016. Given similar composition of the electorate and increased turnout, NC is a poised to go blue, and a nutjob GOP candidate would probably help.

There are currently voter reg and GOTV efforts going on in NC “reaching out mainly to voters of color on “Unregistered” and “Inactive” lists in key voter-suppression states”. Google "Reclaim Our Vote for more info or to help.

”…Trump’s national emergency declaration…”?

Say, whatever happened to that? Did we lose and all is lost? Or was it all bullsquat from the first minute?

Tillis was the#1 beneficiary of NRA donations in either house during the 2016 campaign cycle according to Open Secrets

It used to mean moderation and incrementalism in a process sense; now it refers to particular culture wars outcomes. The litmus tests on the right are becoming ever more numerous and difficult to satisfy.

Books for conservatives … heh.

It’s never meant anything except maintenance of the status quo. Now we know the status quo they want is based on class stratifications, racial prejudice, and maintenance of white male privilege.

Don’t glorify the term. It’s never deserved it.

Republican circular firing squad! But someone tell Tillis’ opponent that it’s a figurative expression and that he shouldn’t bring his gun loaded with live ammunition.
